Raphael Guerreiro

Kind of the modern game though isn't it? Most top fullbacks are not great defenders
I honestly believe he could be being brought in as midfielder especially if we get Gvardiol and Lewis is integrated. Played there most of the year for dortmund and had the most assists in Germany. Great depth option if we do lose anybody from midfield in the summer.

Lb/double pivot, sure, why not. But, as with Kovacic, i dont think either is related to our current midfield. Guerreiro practically replaces Cancelo.

Why? Is Txiki taking charge of training sessions now?
I mean more the fact that any business done these days becomes news immediately. I’m under the impression Tkixi is doing business behind the scenes but we won’t sign anything officially until our season is over. The players who are going already know, the world doesn’t have to until after their last games.

If he is bought to be a leftback, then he would have to invert to suit our playstyle.

That being said, I still don't want anymore inverting fullbacks like Cancelo or Lewis.

The CB pushing into midfield that Stones does was a masterstroke from Pep, as it gave him 5 Tall Defenders, like:

Rodri, Stones
Ake, Dias, Walker

That is very good at stopping counter attacks and winning aerial and ground duels, freeing up the 5 attackers ahead to have more freedom and "try things".

Back to Guerreiro, if he is bought, I'd use him more as the 8/10 role like Gundogan.

If Guerreiro is like a left footed Cancelo in that he’s great going forward but not great defensively it would still work well. One of the big issues with Cancelo is the fact that both Grealish and himself like to cut inside so occupied the same space.

If we get someone who can go outside Grealish it will give Grealish more space.

The biggest issue with cancelo is he’s a moody bastard who downs tools when the going gets tough!

Please try and bring him to the Etihad. Not only can he attack or defend but takes good set pieces too.

I would say £40 million

What’s happened with him to be available as a free. Does he want out and run down contract? Or Dortmund not arsed if he goes?

I’ve not seen much of him last year or two so not sure how his form has been.

“Borussia Dortmund came mightily close to ending Bayern’s Bundesliga monopoly, thanks to their strong surge in form following the winter break. Dortmund picked up the most points (46) and scored the most goals (58) in the Bundesliga in 2023, while no player tallied more goals and assists in the competition since the turn of the year than attacking full-back extraordinaire Raphaël Guerreiro (13).

The Portuguese assisted 12 goals in the Bundesliga this term, which was more than any other player, while his goal in the desperate final matchday draw with Mainz took his tally to a personal best 16 goal involvements this Bundesliga season.

A left-back on paper, Guerreiro has been one of the best playmakers in the Bundesliga in 2022-23, creating 47 chances from open play – a number only surpassed by the two attacking midfielders Jamal Musiala (52) and Moussa Diaby (53). No player managed a higher expected assists (xA) average per 90 from open play than he did, either (0.26 – min. 2,000 minutes).

Guerreiro will leave Dortmund this summer on a free transfer. Wherever he ends up, the team will enjoy a full-back whose quality going forward is almost unrivalled among his peers in Europe. Since he joined Dortmund in the summer of 2016, only Trent Alexander-Arnold can match Guerreiro’s 66 goal involvements (30 goals, 36 assists) among defenders in Europe’s big five leagues.”

I hope we get him as he would add that something different to our current options but it wouldn’t be crushing if he moved elsewhere if that makes sense lol

That makes sense. We have no idea how Guardiola will evolve his side next year, but Guerreiro would add something different from what we currently have and allow greater flexibility. If we want him, I imagine he will come.

He just has a choice to make if he leaves Germany or comes to England it seems mate? Either way he’s a squad player but I would like to get him and hopefully playing for Pep and having a load of his mates here and the premier league swings it our way

Would love Diaby as well if we were after a direct winger, but we’ve never seemed to show any interest

I think he's fantastic. Loved him since the Lorient days and I've always wanted to see him in sky blue. If we can shift Cancelo, he's the ideal replacement. Can play all over the place, scores goals, makes goals, and moves into midfield nicely, I think Pep would love to work with such a versatile player. Not saying he'd play every game, and he does have defensive deficiencies at times, but he'd be such a handy member of the squad to fill in wherever he's needed. I'd be very interested to see how him and Jack could link-up down the left as well.

Absolute no-brainer.
