Raphael Guerreiro

unnecessary, waste of money, too old, doesn`t fit the clubs transfer strategy...Cancelo,Gomez,JWE,Ake should be enough to cover the LB position/space

What's the club's transfer strategy?

He's a quality player so ticks one box, at least.
buying young players who can develop into stars (except goalkeepers like Ortega)..when this thread was opened (2015) it would have made more sense..now he`s 28, soon 29

Guerreiro would be superb if he can stay fit.

It's good to see some movement either way. Would guess Gomez will stay with us if we dont sign Guerreiro but will go out on loan if we do.
Seems Dortmund have had a few problems with injuries. Hopefully if he comes and has a better training regime, his injures will become less frequent.

True in alot of respects and they will generally look for a younger player in their early to mid twenties but if they feel he is the right player they will try to sign him whatever the age

Let's not forget we signed Walker when he was 27, Fernandinho at 28. We wanted to sign Harry Kane who was 27/28 at the time and we wanted Messi in his 30s.

To be fair, we're not opposed to signing players in their late twenties, especially for the right price. Plus, signing someone that age might avoid stagnating Wilson-Esbrand's development.

I'm not convinced we'll end up with him but I think a player's attitude and ability are the top criteria for any signing and Guerreiro fits the bill in that regard.

Injuries - Aguero went from a sick note to being available when called upon under Pep and his medical team (until his knee at the end).

Plus, Guerreiro won’t be playing as many games with us as he would at Dortmund. Cancelo will likely be the first choice (rightly so) there. More options just means more chance to rotate the full back positions which hasn’t been possible the last few years.

Are people acting like 28 is 34?

He's not Marcelo, if he's a good player and works out then there would be no reason he couldn't have a good four/five years here. You can't get a wunderkid every time, and LB is a definite problem position. I can't claim to know much about the man as a player but if he is a genuine solution then the fact that he's late-twenties is no issue for me.
