I dunno what the hell this thread really is, considering it's not the best time to be rating transfers bought last summer.
Delph - Looks good and importantly has confidence, so when he's come in, he's look like he belonged. Technically sound, energetic. The type of player that's an asset to any squad, in some form, no matter what level that squad is at. At 8 million, (and ticking an english quota box,) I expect this to prove to be a great bit of business.
Sterling - The greatest english, young, attacking talent out there. Smart player. Pace is frightening. Good at following tactical instruction. Needs polishing up, technically. Good mentality that has braved a media execution and excessive responsibility due to injuries this season. Handled it admirably. English player premium. Rival team premium. World class potential. Today's market (in terms of average premier league team's revenue.) 44 million will be a bargain, if this lad fulfils our ambitions for him. I expect this to be a great bit of business.
De Bruyne - 50 million for the assist king of Europe? who just so happens to be young, hungry and potentially a GOAT City/Prem player? Hell yeah 50 million! Cash, cheque or credit!? I expect this to be a great bit of business (I feel like I've said that already.)
Otamendi - La liga's best defender last season. His style and skill set fit the bill for the kinds of defenders we've been signing. He's become our a big yard dog in a time when we're missing our Captain Fantastic who *usually* fills that role so perfectly. (...I say 'usually' simply for want of a better word.) I must admit, I find myself admiring the way he passes a ball, which is weird because he's a defender. Also his beard is glorious. I believe that Kompany's absence has quickened the process of proving this to be a much-needed signing. Whether he was worth his money, it's still unfair tojudge. I expect this to prove to be a solid peice of business.
All in all, it's not clever to judge right now, and that goes both ways (whether you wanna bash the signings or praise them.) But I guess it's just discussion of opinion so it's harmless.
What I think was truly great about this window was the manner in which we went about our business. We took Liverpool from a firm 'no' to 'okay, fiiiiiine.' Also, we fought some top teams for De Bruyne, and won that battle. And we used the Negredo situation, which is a negative, and used it to get the best defender of La Liga last season (this is what I believe.) We also replaced the loss of Milner, who we would miss for a variety of non-worldclass reasons.
Great window. Weird season though :s
