Ray Clemence RIP

Very sad news. First saw him play for Liverpool reserves at Maine Road back in the 60's. As others have mentioned, he would have won a host of international caps but for the depth of goalkeeping talent England had at that time. RIP

I’d forgotten about Phil Parkes, and there was also Jimmy Rimmer, who was another fantastic ‘keeper from that time.
Wolves also had a keeper called Phil Parkes back in the 70's should have played in 74 League Cup final but was injured. The rest, as they say is history.
Always thought Clemence was better than Shilton had a better command of his area rather than just being a shot stopper.

Brilliant keeper and better than Shilton in my opinion. Seemed a lovely bloke too. RIP.

From the BBC.. "Clemence, who won five league titles and three European Cups with Liverpool between 1967 and 1981, was diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer in 2005.

He also lifted the FA Cup, League Cup and two Uefa Cups during his time at Anfield"

Quite astonishing he wasn't the automatic choice for England when you've won all that. Shows how good he was. He must be the most decorated keeper in England I'd imagine?

RIP Ray.
