No wonder we withdrew our interest in Wirtz.

Seeing as he is away for the first time with France, maybe we need to get this done before he plays because if he plays well, the price might go up

He only has 1 year left and Lyon are brassic and were preliminary relegated to Ligue 2.

On Friday 15 November 2024, the French National Management Control Department “Direction nationale du contrôle de gestion” (DNCG) handed down a decision demoting Olympique Lyonnais to Ligue 2 at the end of the 2024/2025 season

We hold the cards if he wants us.

OMG! One of my favourite players for city! Even though he was getting on. Amazing player.
Outrageous talent. Wish we had signed him in his prime.
Terrific footballer..
I still remember his debut v Birmingham. I don’t think he’d even trained with the team. He bossed the entire game. I recall everyone in the crowd talking, saying WTF is this guy…?

So are expected stats. An 'expected assist' can only occur if a quality striker makes the run, not to mention all of the buildup before that. Likewise an 'expected goal' can only occur if your winger delivers a decent cross.
Expected stats for an individual player are much *less* influenced by other players than actual stats.

And expected assists are not calculated based on whether a “quality striker” made a run. Expected stats are calculated on a quality continuum, so there can be an expected goal value even if the cross from the winger isn’t decent and an expected assist value even if a player didn’t make a good run.

There is a reason the top clubs around the world—including us—have begun to heavily utilise expected stats to identify value-for-money and high potential players.

I remembered watching him put the Geordies to the sword for Monaco back in the day and was amazed when he rocked up at Maine Road years later

Good knowledge..
I confess , I’d never heard of him when we signed him. Funnily enough, I think he’d been for a trial at Newcastle days before signing for us.. Maybe I am remembering it wrong

What position do we reckon he will mainly play in? He is obviously versatile and can play both wide and central depending in opposition/players available. I see some narratives (which might be true) that we see him as a KDB replacement but in terms of position he has mainly played as a winger. Foden central and Cherki RW, the position he has mainly played in Lyon?

Cant see him playing as a ten, i think thats where they see marmoush , more likely to be off the right for me

I suspect the dippers didn’t think Wirtz would actually choose them
Looks like we’re in for similar players this season
Both full backs and an attacking playmaker
