RB Leipzig (A) - Post-match Thread

Yeah he kicked the opponents ankles but how often do you see a player only get a yellow for hacking down a player when trying to stop the advantage.
He proper booted him tho! It was petulant more than dangerous I agree, but these days that’s what happens

We never used to moan about officials like we now seem to ?
City as a team and Pep's lack of change, are to blame for tonight's defeat, in my opinion.
Leizip were more organised and eager than City. Steffan made some very good saves, as Leipzig knew when to attack.
Once again, Pep never saw the need to use his subs. Why make your second/third change in the 86th minute ?
We have won the group, so let's hope we learn from that disappointing performance and deserved result...
Just hope we don't have anyone coming back with an injury or catching covid , pep could have taken the eds and noone would have complained

*lol* You may have guessed from my post that I didn’t watch the second half. My great granddaughter got her Mum to ring me on the way back from her swimming lesson! Sorry, not much is more important than City but she is! :-)

I see 3 people have voted for our Kyle though as MOTM. Not usual for a goalkeeper to get so many votes!
Glad your Great granddaughter’s Mum has finally got round to having swimming lessons. ;-)

With all due respect mate that’s absolute horseshit.
As I replied to your similar statement in the match thread, slack attitudes and complacency of the sort on display tonight can easily bleed into league performances and more important games if not addressed.
We have seen this before. This team are brilliant but they can also be a bit flaky and lazy if they can get away with it.
Gundo and Walker shouldn’t have even been on the plane. One looks to have suddenly hit the red wall of burnout and the other could possibly miss our next three CL games, should we make it that far.
Meanwhile, generational young lads we are trying to convince about a pathway and to sign new contracts can’t even get on the pitch in a dead rubber. Pathetic.
Certainly couldn’t blame James McAtee for at least considering his future when he can’t even get a second of action despite his elders and betters being frankly dogshit.
You’re normally a very decent poster who I have long had a lot of time for but I think you’ve got this one wrong tbh
Totally understand your point about intensity, keeping a run going, breeding confidence etc, all has merit and I'd be inclined to agree if we sent out our best 11 and did that. but that side whilst still being full of first teamers is at least half a dozen away from our best side and so i don't think its a problem for the players to shake that off instantly and switch back on for the weekend.

I also think peps prioritised using that as an experiment over keeping momentum going. I couldnt work out exactly what Pep was trying but First half especially we were set up differently than usual, seemed like he was trying something differently, fullbacks were tucked further in than usual and our 8s were a lot higher and wider than usual, whatever he was trying it's clearly not gone well but Peps always going to be innovating and that's the game to do it in.

As for the kids getting a game, it's unfortunate for them but they are in that environment daily, they know Pep doesn't hand out freebies and you have to work for it, most are 18/19 there's very few that get a sniff at that age even at lesser sides, if they're contemplating doing a Sancho they don't have the right mentality to be here anyway and won't be missed, they've got foden to look at as an example of how you get into this side, if he can bide his time, anybody can. we're not unique in this, most other top clubs are the same, you need only look at liverpools team tonight who are in the same situation, they've got 1 kid in and that's more down to a lack of options and the likes of Salah and mane and even Alisson are starting and they don't have the depth we have so you'd think they'd be more likely to play the kids.

absolute mare from pep there. from an unnecessary starting lineup and then refusing to bring on our academy. now we have a bad feeling from this match. instead if he atleast brought on our kids and lost no one wold have care and we would have 1 less red card and suspension. really bad management today
Completely agree. He wastes 2 days taking players to Germany to play a game that the regulars can't be arsed playing and wastes 2 days for 5 academy players who are dying to play to give Cole Palmer fucking 4 minutes. Is it any surprise the likes of McAtee will be seriously considering what opportunities he'll ever get at City.

Only 3 good things could come have from tonight. 1. No injuries/suspensions 2. Experience for Academy Players 3. Jack (Flop) Grealish score a goal.

We got none of them.

The *only thing* we needed to do with this game was not get a serious injury, or get any important player banned from the knockout stage.

Blimey.

I was going to ask if anyone really arsed other than the fact most if us just hate City losing but then I saw this thread was 31 pages in

One of those games where Pep knew it meant nothing to us but meant a fair bit to the opposition; there was something riding on it for them and there was a big team scalp to be had. So Pep couldn’t really play a load of inexperienced younger players because they’d have probably got dicked tonight.

We did okay in conserving energy and not conceding too many chances. Walker’s moment of pure stupidity apart, it was a poor game of football that we did all we needed to, in.

Games in a series are called rubbers - eg in tennis,,bridge. Obviously, as in city's case, the final 'rubber' in a series doesn't have any affect on the overall outcome hence a dead rubber
Liepzig needed to secure third spot so not a dead rubber as such.
