RB Leipzig (A) - Post-match Thread

All a bit weird tonight - can’t really figure out what the objective was given that a number of players could have done with a rest, coupled with the schedule we’re facing this month. The players didn’t look interested and the number of silly offsides suggests attitude was an issue. Would have expected at least one of Palmer / McAtee to start, although after tonight they’re probably a bit lower down the pecking order than everybody assumed.

The only positives were Steffen and Zinchenko, but the overriding feelings are (1) just how dependent we are on Rodri/Bernado/Dias staying fit and (2) that we have a few players who continue to be badly out of form.

Stones hasn’t got going this season at all - he seems much less engaged and aggressive than he was last year - and KDB remains a marginal figure. Having been ill with Covid myself last year I know how much it can take out of you, so I’m not criticising him on tonight alone, but he’s been on the periphery for a good while now and he needs to turn it around quite quickly around if he wants to be as important to the team as he used to be. Grealish meanwhile still not convincing for me.

its a game that really city and pep did not need to win. but the officials bloody made it 100% we was not winning.
ok its a meaningless game but uefa and its bent officials made it a ugly game and walker lost the plot at the end

something happened for walker to lose it that bad ? the stone wall pen. the stones booking. letting there centre back kick us off the park without punishment. maybe he said something to walker and enough was enough

the thing i am taking out of the game tonight is manchester city are not going to be allow to win the champions league this season ? its a stark warning after what i watched tonight by the officials in a meaningless game
We never used to moan about officials like we now seem to ?
City as a team and Pep's lack of change, are to blame for tonight's defeat, in my opinion.
Leizip were more organised and eager than City. Steffan made some very good saves, as Leipzig knew when to attack.
Once again, Pep never saw the need to use his subs. Why make your second/third change in the 86th minute ?
We have won the group, so let's hope we learn from that disappointing performance and deserved result...

*lol* You may have guessed from my post that I didn’t watch the second half. My great granddaughter got her Mum to ring me on the way back from her swimming lesson! Sorry, not much is more important than City but she is! :-)

I see 3 people have voted for our Kyle though as MOTM. Not usual for a goalkeeper to get so many votes!

John is 27 and insanely talented yet he still needs a grown-up beside him to hold his hand. Sadly his mentality and concentration can’t be trusted otherwise.
Of our four centre halves, that tonight is comfortably our worst combination. The worst player paired with the worst mind
Don't you think the fact it was a pointless match that had a lot to do with our approach? Imagine getting a season ending injury in a match of this magnitude?

I could barely be arsed watching it, so imagine what the players felt like being dragged halfway across Europe, to play in front of 10 Leipsig ball boys? :-|

Meant a lot more to Leipzig than ourselves and it showed for the majority of the game , they had something to play for and we were in the comfort zone , the result means absolutely nothing apart from the fact we missed an opportunity to give our academy players some game time. Not going to dig out individuals because apart from Steffen every player was below par , would rather have this happen tonight than on Saturday.
Must mention that referee , Leipzig allowed to foul with impunity and KDB gets booked for taking a quick free kick sums up the officials performance and VAR for the nailed on penalty that BT decided not to even replay , if UEFA or the media have an opportunity to stitch us up they take it with both hands. Well fuck'em.
Don’t forget the footage we see when we’re away from home is the footage from the TV channels in the country we’re playing in. That was the German sports channel who decided not to show the replay. And to be fair to BT, even Keown said “I don’t know what City have to do to get a free kick in this game”… it was the same away in Brugge, the referee was absolutely terrible (as they mostly are in Europe).
