RB Leipzig (A) - Post-match Thread

I believe our current youngsters would have been kicked off the pitch which would have broken them mentality and maybe even injured them. Imagine picking up an injury and not being able to play in future games you weren't getting picked for anyhow.

Plus garcia was a different level, man mountain, mentally superior and was brilliant when he played.

That or he left a paella on Peps door step every day:-)
Thats fine but Palmer started against Everton.

Im not bothered about the result, it just didn't make sense for Walker and Gundogan to play. He can be frustrating at times with his comments about the need for 7 subs and his praise for the youngsters prior to the match and then doesnt play them

Sorry, but we can't have it both ways. It was either a dead rubber or it wasn't

For all his former glory Fernandinho has aged rapidly over the summer and is now a liability against pace (he also struggled at Villa last week)
We then magnify the issue by also picking Ake and Zinchenko, who whilst not having a particularly bad game are simply not as good as Cancelo and Dias, Similarly Steffan was our best player, but his distribution isn't as crisp as Ederson.

De Bruyne has been poor this season, whilst Stones, Walker, Grealish, and Mahrez didn't want to be there. In fact Walker's performance was so weird even Martin Keown noticed

All this wouldn't have bothered me so much if we'd started with Palmer, or used McAtee at some point
Fern scored the winner against Villa. We all know he is not the same player. Points might not have been secured without his presence on the pitch.

You didn’t get the sarcasm of the post as well hidden as it was:-)

It's not a question of being better without them. What we are is a team that is poorer without Bernado and Rodri.
This all day and every day, throw in Foden (when fit) and you have 3 undroppables imo Foden and Bernado provide a level of energy above what anyone else can provide and that makes a massive difference

Yes, but how does he get fit and play himself into form( which he needs to do) if we don’t back him and drop him, be sure we will need a fit and in form KDB at the business end of the season
The team is bigger than any individual and the main reason why City are currently top of the PL is because Cancelo, Rodri, and Bernardo, have all raised their game to unbelievable heights in recent weeks, whilst Foden, Jesus, and Gundogen have provided the necessary fluidity and balance.

De Bruyne has to force himself into that reckoning with consistently undroppable performances.

Not the other way round.

Pep can’t play youngsters at the expense of high earning professionals like Mahrez, Ake, Zin etc. Football has a hierarchy and he needs to keep the players who have not seen much game time fit and ready to go when called upon. Squad players need to feel included.

So, unless we trim the squad and promote youth then nothing will change.

This is the time of the season where, in the PL, we need to play the best FIT team we can put on the field. Presently, that doesn’t include KDB, because he’s not fit. Looks like he’s ready for a hard 30 minutes, because he’s one of the pressing 4 when he plays, but once they get through the press, he’s walking around trying to get his wind.

Don’t often criticize Pep, but this game should have had at least 3 kids starting and a chance to get 90 mins. And, yet again, it feels like yet another CL miscalculation.

Result is meaningless, apart from the fact that every City player was a current international, so it actually looks like we played as poorly as we did!!

Let’s hope that game is out of our system!

Anyone know FOR A FACT if Walker misses 1 or 3 games. I think a straight red is 3, while 2 yellows is 1. If it is 3, we should contest the red card, because it was soft as fuck!

Glad that’s out of our system. Time for normal service to be resumed.

We’re lucky enough to have a squad where if KDB is playing badly or unfit, then someone else is likely to be playing well. The Scousers are toast if Salah starts a bad run of form, as a comparison.

genuine question - are we a beter team without KDB and Grealish at present..... We know KDB's quality and Im not doubting that for a second but this season has been poor from him....mainly due to clearly not being fit.....but we cantafford passengers and our best displays have come without him or Grealish in the team
Ive been banging that drum for quite a while,i even made a thread about the situation.KDB,although not quite the force he was,is still one of the best players in the world,however.....i believe we play better as a cohesive unit without him.His omission allows the talents of Bernie,Phil,Gundo and Rodri to flourish and we get the most out of them both individually and collectively.

As for Grealish,he hasn't yet clicked as i believed he would, but its still far too early to be conclusive.Leaving him out would be counter productive.

Agree completely, although to be fair to Salah, we all thought the same in 19/20 and it didn't happen
