RB Leipzig (A) - Post-match Thread

Shite as they have been this year I fear they might be the sort of horrible defensive breakaway Kryptonite to the way we play.
Sporting or the second placed team from united’s conference league group would do
100% agree, worst possible draw!
Was keen to see them go out

The line up and subs made no sense. A lot of these players didn’t need to play, such as Walker. The game didn’t really mean anything, but disappointed the youth players basically didn’t play

mcatee must be thinking I’m not going to play all season

Check the number of trophies won under Pep. Then, if that looks like a meagre return for the teams he plays, list the coaches who’d have done better. If you’re struggling, pop a letter in the post and tell Pep why you’re not happy with the endless pots he’s won for us and explain how he’s got it all wrong and should be playing the kids. Then, in six months’ time, pull down your undies and see if you’ve grown a pair. Send the pics to Pep. He’ll be busy polishing trophies mind whilst you search frantically for your ball bag.

So let me get this straight...

City needed to field a full strength team and play well and win tonight in order to maintain rhythm and momentum. But Pep should have also played a weaker team full of B-team players and youngsters, treated the game like a free-hit training exercise, and kept our key players fresh for the weekend.

Not sure Pep can really win in that scenario.

I haven’t seen anyone suggest the second point you made. A strong team with two youngsters included would have been good.

- Walker and Gundo were the only selections that confused me. Plenty of players needed minutes. Pep is pretty decent at squad management, and has access to fitness data we don't. I trust him and the team for making the selections they do.

- If we were treating it like a training session that is because that is what it was, but I don't know why we ended up getting into little scraps when that's all it was to us. Plenty of leaders on the pitch, so someone just needed to take the edge off it. I suppose a positive reading is that there is a winning spirit there.

- Ultimately, they had something to play for and we didn't and that showed. The empty stadium seemed to throw us as well.

- Walker should have been much, much more disciplined. He's virtually cut all brain farts out his game, so sad to see them creep back in, even as a one off.

- Sterling looked good again. Kev doesn't get into the first 11 on current form. Foden can have the playing himself into form excuse.

- Is Rodri our most important player to how we play (accepting Bernie is best?)?

- I'll have forgotten about it by Saturday. Not too much to learn here.

Which players didn’t need to play apart from walker and gundogan that you are saying a lot of them didn’t need to play?

And how many times have you see egan riley play that you are acting like he deserves to start for us ?
Walker or Cancelo were most likely going to play and cancelo has more minutes in his leg so I don’t see the problem with playing walker.

Only Palmer has a case for starting the game so I don’t get all the outrage from this forum.

The game meant nothing. Starting say Egan Riley at right back wouldn’t have been the worst decision as Walker plays most games and again the game meant nothing.
We played a strong first 11, who looked like they couldn’t care less. I’d rather have lost with a couple of younger players (maybe 2 or 3)
It’s not outrage it’s disappointment . Don’t really care about the result

Foden was another one just coming back from injury, why start him when he wasn’t apparently right?

Don’t really care about the result. But dont understand why half those players played today. I would have rather played Carson at right back today. Coming up on most congested period for fixtures and no need to play a strong side. I can understand giving Kev and Jack a run out but otherwise should have started with half the youth team.

Whatever anybody thinks about the result, performance or team selection .. the only thing that really matters is walkers red card … idiotic
