RB Leipzig (A) - Post-match Thread

There’s some ungrateful posters on here, ffs, head wobble, reality check, Pep and his team (including Khaldoon, Tixi and Sorriano) are the best in the business, never forget that, and when they’ve gone they will be missed big time.
They’re also human and have got plenty wrong as well. They aren’t perfect.
They are employees of Manchester City Football Club.
This club and our support will be here long after this project is long gone.
An example. Did you shell out going to Porto only to be met with an embarrassing and abject surrender by those you eulogise? I did and I am still fucking disgusted

It obviously didn't. The main thing about this game was to avoid injuries, and keep the squad fit. Shame about Walkers red card but all in all no real harm done. Moaners will always moan. I've supported this team far too long to start becoming a nit-picker. Onwards and upwards. Judging by some of the comments you'd think we'd just been dumped out of the CL. The mind boggles???????
I beg to differ

Foden injured and Walker suspended for at least the 1st leg of the next round

Both totally avoidable

made a right cock up this evening, got the timing allwrong turned the match on only to realise we were.... losing 1~0,was confident we would pull it back watched for 15 mins or so and came to the opinion that strolling had been sent off.But no spotted him with 5 minutes to go in his usual position on his arse then walker got sent off. Brought us down to 9 men.Good job the result was imaterial but please Pep why are you the only one that thinks he warrants a place in the team.

Ake? If he can't get a game in a nothing Champions League game then what's the point of him?

Walker I agree.

Foden? He was playing just like Jack & Kev were to get some fitness.

Injuries happen, it's life, players can pick up injuries anywhere you've just got to get on with it.

A number of senior players (and slightly less senior) were piss poor tonight imho.

What it showed was how much Bernardo, and Rodri add to the team.

Steffen saved us from an embarrassment.

Luckily it didn't matter, but I hope Pep has taken note of a lot of shite performances from "senior" players.

Yes I’ve amended it as I agree Ake was always gonna play

An annoying and infuriating result. Little of real value can be taken from that. A lost opportunity- a brainfart- but the message it sends to the young players at MCFC is very clear…….Who’s going to be the next Jadon Sancho and jump ship.
Pep does not trust our Academy players. Not even in games that we don’t have to win.

Yep 100% I can't believe how well Phil Foden is doing at Barcelona.

KDB has been poor long before he got COVID. He consistently looks a yard of the pace and whilst you can see he has still got the vision, his execution of passes has dropped of a cliff.

Like Laporte, I don’t see either of them regaining their very top form. Whilst that doesn’t mean they are no longer top players, we now have better options than them in the squad and Pep’s selection should reflect that.
Who is this better options than Laporte I was not informed about. Do tell!

If Walker had been in full flow and playing well in this match I'd have been majorly pissed off with his brain dead red card. In reality he was poor and fielding Cancelo and Zinchenko next match will not be a downgrade IMO. Losing players to a red card is always a bad result though. It seems Pep doesn't rate Palmer and McAtee as much as most fans.

Gave plenty of games to Spanish and Catalan teenagers though

Game was a training session to get minutes into players like Kev, Ake, Zinny, Gundo, Walker, Jack, Fernandinho, Steffen and Stones off the top of my head who have missed games or a game and was played as such by us. That much was obvious early on. We got minutes into their legs so that's the main thing.

Walker getting a ridiculous red was stupid by him, and he'll suffer the consequences for that, Foden hurting his ankle is a bigger concern for me then anything that happened during the game.

Onto Wolves on Saturday, we've topped our group, onto the draw now so I'm moving on from this morning.

He gave Garcia enough opportunity

As wonderful as Pep s he`s a stubborn fucker at times - a dead rubber and he insists on playing some that didn`t need those minutes in their legs. It was an ideal opportunity for Palmer. maybe McAtee, Wilson-Esbrand, Egan-Riley and Lavia. Some of those playing tonight treated it as a training/ pre-season game. It was an injury/red card waiting to happen.
And fuck the integrity of the tournament other teams wouldn`t give a fuck about playing some kids. It`s no wonder some of them get disillusioned seeing no pathway to the first team.

Tin hat on
No individual is beyond criticism , even the greatest make bad calls.

Last night was a dead game, so in my humble should have been used to play the wonderful kids we have, give them a chance to shine, learn and experience a European night .

The only senior players that should have seen that pitch were KDB, Steffen , Ake and possibly Grealish, all players that need game time.

We have a crazy amount of games coming up, having the chance to give senior players a free match week was a huge positive we did not take.

And demonstrated once again why we should rip Newcastle’s hands off if they offer anything north of £30m, which I believe would still represent a modest accounting profit post-amortisation on a frankly awful signing.
Like a competition winner in our team.
The others clearly don’t trust him, hence he transmits jitters and uncertainty. He makes everyone worse, just like Bravo

Awful game heightened by abysmal management.

Playing half that team was pointless, and those kids will be wondering what the fuck they have to do to get their break - We are already seeing evidence of stagnation with Lavia.

Pep is brilliant, but we can rely on 2 or 3 of these brainfarts every season and it frustrates the fuck out of me.

An ideal opportunity wasted, but i guess there is always Brighton u18's next week to look forward to.......

I feel the club lost 3 points, 3 millions (thats what the club get when they win a game in CL ) & a chance to let our youngsters play to gain experience and rise their value.

A decent performance from Wilson the RB will rise his value more than winning the match.

A 90 minutes from Mcatee will show Pep that he is good enough to compete with Sterling & Grealish.

I think we just have to accept and live with that Pep will frustrate us 5 games per season but he will entertain us for the remaining 55.

McAtee is, I believe, a rag. He'll be off now.
