RB Leipzig (A) | Post Match Thread

Same old story, really poor when put under any sustained pressure this season.

That's a result of how slow and methodical our tactics are, it leaves us the wrong side of the ball or standing square on when the ball is given up.

We aren't good enough to mount a rearguard action without not conceding.

Eddie was terrible for their equaliser, got caught under the flight of the ball, regardless of Dias being outjumped.

Bernie gives us legs but our midfield this season lacks drive and penetration and he is unable to see a quick pass.

It's why Gundo still stands out when he tried to play quicker or a forward pass, because he and De Bruyne are the only people who are capable of doing it, but they can't cover the ground like they used to.

Haaland must be an astounding pro, because I would have chinned Bernie and others for their reluctance or inability to at least try to find him.

Much more of this, and he will be ran in to the ground or out the door in the next couple of years.

It's a City team which needs a huge injection of drive that can power the team forward.

Walker is finished at the top level and fell to pieces again when asked to defend this season.

We need full backs for both sides, and a hugely creative ball player next to someone like Bellingham.

At the very least, a sub or two from Pep, who doesn't make changes when it is clear the momentum is with the other team, is increasingly apparent this season.
Our midfield is crying out for some youth, pace and energy. Hopefully we get Bellingham and we a need another creative mf possibly Maddison. Lb is obviously another priority and as you say Walker is not getting any younger.

Gosh this is an angry thread!! Seeing more anger these last few weeks, partly performance and results based, but I'm also guessing there's a lot of latent anger from the PL thing kicking about as well

Pre match I thought Draw was a decent result at a very tricky team that, let's be honest, had the exact style of play that City haven't fared well against for seasons, even at our pinnacle.

Admittedly at HT the perspectives change and we didn't make ourselves look good, surrendering that control. Haaland was so angry towards full time, that hardly went unnoticed. I do think hooking Grealish or Mahrez for a midfield presence 15 from the end would have been sensible, but that's just me.

But it's a draw, I really can't get on board with some of the rage, especially shocking from some level headed posters.

Every time we play a non-Bayern German team, I always think they look midtable Prem quality, some just bottom half quality.

Nkunku is a cracking player but nobody else in their team would be worth looking at. That Gvardiol (I know he’s young) under no pressure just shanked the ball straight out of play for a throw-in three times last night. The rest are just okay players.

I tend to agree. Even the one time Haaland received the ball, he left Gvardiol for dead within two yards and pity it came on his right foot.

I don't think Red Bull were much at all, we allowed them to earn a foothold because of our passiveness and basic errors in possession.

The thing with these away knockout games in the champions league is no matter how good/bad the team were playing are they're going to have a spell, Leipzig will cause even the best teams problems due to the way they press, we were outstanding first half and did actually stand up to the test in the second.

Rosa made a change at half time to cause us problems with an attacking right back and it worked, Grealish in that kind of hybrid left wing back position was never going to track him everytime which resulted in Ake being caught in a 2 v 1 on numerous occasions, thats on Pep to react not the players even if he didnt want to make a change in personnel surely logic would dictate going back to an actual back 4 with 3 in front of it Mahrez and Grealish wide would have helped us ride the storm. Not a clue why he's so reluctant to make subs though he clearly doesn't trust a number of players he bought who are on the bench.

Their goal is never a foul Gvaridol got up early and dominated, im more concerned Gundogan never got out with Mahrez to try to prevent the cross as he was stuck in a 2 v 1. The handball at the end is absolutely stonewall though not a fucking clue how the ref didnt give it in real time never mind the shitshow that is var.

We'll beat them at home and move on, weve looked better the last few games which, even allowing for our lack of pace, bodes well for the rest of the season

Not a foul for me and never will be.

Dias is slow to react and Gvardiol got the jump on him and nobody jumps without using arms for leverage.

Dias is only slow to react because Ederson is again rooted to his line and missed the flight of the ball.
Agree need your keeper to take everything out in that situation and lie on the floor whilst we reset. Instead we get a crouching man with his hand in the air. Shame as he was playing well until that point

Walker is finished mate. He's even being done for pace now.

The loss of David Silva and the downturn in Kev cannot be overstated.

We have gone from the most creative team in the world to one which looks for inspiration and is now rigid in its functionality and that allows teams to plan for just staying in games.

Bellingham is a must and also need a world class playmaker.

Doubt you can say Ederson was rooted to his line - he ran out and was at the 6 yard box

Nowhere near. He moves to his front post and then realised the ball was going over his head.

Totally misjudged the flight, really poor by him. Should be close to Gvardiol, getting his arms up high and maximising his size, but at the point the header happens he's crouched, turning trying to get back to his line.

It's another game where a simple mistake (whoever it's by) has cost us.
