RB Leipzig (A) | Post Match Thread

Same old story, really poor when put under any sustained pressure this season.

That's a result of how slow and methodical our tactics are, it leaves us the wrong side of the ball or standing square on when the ball is given up.

We aren't good enough to mount a rearguard action without not conceding.

Eddie was terrible for their equaliser, got caught under the flight of the ball, regardless of Dias being outjumped.

Bernie gives us legs but our midfield this season lacks drive and penetration and he is unable to see a quick pass.

It's why Gundo still stands out when he tried to play quicker or a forward pass, because he and De Bruyne are the only people who are capable of doing it, but they can't cover the ground like they used to.

Haaland must be an astounding pro, because I would have chinned Bernie and others for their reluctance or inability to at least try to find him.

Much more of this, and he will be ran in to the ground or out the door in the next couple of years.

It's a City team which needs a huge injection of drive that can power the team forward.

Walker is finished at the top level and fell to pieces again when asked to defend this season.

We need full backs for both sides, and a hugely creative ball player next to someone like Bellingham.

At the very least, a sub or two from Pep, who doesn't make changes when it is clear the momentum is with the other team, is increasingly apparent this season.
We have a creative midfielder he’s called Foden, Pep alluded to it last week but said he doesn’t make the right decisions at the right time, well he won’t if he doesn’t get the chance. Pep is reactive rather than pro active with subs, like Forest you can see we needed to get a left back on but it was too late at 88 mins! Like you say Walker is coming to the end and can’t cross for shit, if Pep wants to overload midfield we have to play wing backs and bloody fast ones that overlap and can get up and down. I like Lampty at Brighton for the right, god knows for the left we haven’t found one for 6 years! I think we need 5 players to supplement the squad Bellingham been the big one, but we need to get the ball to Haaland in the nest 18 months or he is off.

Not a foul for me and never will be.

Dias is slow to react and Gvardiol got the jump on him and nobody jumps without using arms for leverage.

Dias is only slow to react because Ederson is again rooted to his line and missed the flight of the ball.
A wee bit harsh TH, it was a very good cross, high looping flight. To be fair to Eddie he produced a performance we’ve been crying out for months.

Would love to see what any VAR review does if Haaland scores a goal in those circumstances.

I’m disappointed and confused the way our performance fell off a cliff second half, no control whatsoever compared to the first half.

Rodri looked fucked second half, surely Pep has to bite the bullet soon and give him some rest and try to integrate Philips into the team?

I can see several players wanting away at the end of the season and who could blame them. Haaland is the biggest concern, cutting a very frustrated figure this last couple of months due to him seeing so little of the ball. Alvarez, a world cup winner must also be thinking, why am I getting so few minutes on the pitch, does my manager not rate me. Phillips, no fucking idea if he's going to get any more minutes this season and can easily see him wanting to leave. Plus question marks of several others like, Bernardo, Gundogan, Laporte and it could add to a very busy summer

Good first half. But was a very poor second half display.

Five times we had a free man in midfield who was under no pressure and he just passed the ball backwards. FUCKING TURN AND GO THE OTHER WAY FOR FUCK’S SAKE!

And Haaland should line them all up in the changing rooms and slap each and every one of them for not passing to him anywhere near fucking enough.

That was a clear penalty at the end though, no surprises with the CL officials though, they haven’t got a clue.
Wht did Pep say about no subs. There must be some solid reason for it 'cos when yer play two halves like that it's pretty clear those who started the first half are beginning to sag a bit - fresh legs 'n all that!

4 tough games in 10 days is taking its toll, especially when no subs are used.

We had the most players at the WC too, it’s all having an effect, especially on the older players like Kev & Gundo.

Walker is finished mate. He's even being done for pace now.

The loss of David Silva and the downturn in Kev cannot be overstated.

We have gone from the most creative team in the world to one which looks for inspiration and is now rigid in its functionality and that allows teams to plan for just staying in games.

Bellingham is a must and also need a world class playmaker.

I was thinking that last night RE David Silva, we quietly replaced him with what we already have in Gundogan and Bernardo. Both very good players but can’t unlock tight spaces with passes like Silva can.

You look at arguably our best team ifrom 2017-2019 we had two quick wide players either side of Aguero and then De Bruyne and Silva in tandem. We don’t have the ability to quickly move the ball, our wide players help retain it and not create. Instead of going forward the ball comes back inside for the centre backs to start again with. We need a massive over haul, things are going stale.

Thought Walker was fantastic first half, end product was a bit hit & miss, interesting that their lad on the opposite flank second half was gassed out after 20-25 minutes doing a similar job, I think he’s just getting into his stride tbh and needs to keep playing football to build up his consistency (it’s been a very stop start season for him) our support in general does have a panic when a player enters their thirties, if you listen to some KDB Gundo & KW need pensioning off, they don’t they need to be around to bring the next crop through then bow out in style

Mac Allister or De Jong or somebody else ?
We've seen full circle from Mancini, Pellers and the best of Pep - all done with frightening pace and creativity. It now looks as though Pep thinks possession is nine-tenths of a goal! There's little pace left in the team and against a young early-twenties athlete who can race away and finish we are sitting ducks.

Totally agree and genuinely can’t believe there are people on here happy with last night?!

Not running round cheering but it's still a good result away in Europe in the knockout stages, Pep was happy, he knows we aren't firing full on but what team is ? Trust in Pep and stop moaning, it's fucking tedious, God help some of the posters on here if they had to watch city when we were ACTUALLY shit...

Really?

Looks to me like the 2nd clip shows it actually doesn't go near his raised hand and hits the outside of his upper arm.

Yeah, to me it looks like outer forearm, crook of the elbow - it's not an angle or footage which changes my opinion of the first clip, in part because you don't get the sense of depth from that angle. With the other angle as well, his arms are in front and moving in motion towards the ball

Or you could say De Bruyne Foden Laporte & Lewis are well rested and will come into the side at Bournemouth to freshen things up, giving Gundo Mahrez Grealish & Dias a break, Dias mainly to ease him back in (2 games in 4 days) Jack has been great and a rest will do him good, and a nice break for our two elder statesmen

Daughter has started playing FIFA19 (as City, good girl!) and every time I join in and he's playing it makes me a little sad for what we've lost.

Control, calmness, creativity and fight. Incredible player.

Fair enough. I'm putting it down more as 'could be given' now rather than 'was robbed' like I thought last night. Frustrating though after some of the previous we've had with Champions League var.

Morning after the day before

That was a mad day with the blues in Market Square, Absalutely cracking day

My feet are aching after that fucking stupid 35 minutes kept behind & the extra 3 mile walk by the police what a fucking joke

The game was a great experience, dominated the 1st 45 but not getting that 2nd is a big problem for us

They were always going to change in thev2nd half they had 2
Not seen there 1st but 100% that fucking handball right in front of us away fans was just a joke

Carrupt as fuck, obviously he was told by whoever to just blow up, incredible but we can all see now what we have to do to win a game

Some heads went down in that last 45, Walker went from comfortable to awfull, Berny ripped it up in the 1st 45 then not in the game like Rodri
Mahrez never found Haaland once, why the fuck didn't Pep change it up hes a nutter

Unless it was Grealish down the left we wernt going to score
Not a great result but on 2nd half performance I was happy getting out 1-1

Now for 2 trains, 1 flight & 2 more trains, madness but loveved it..
Get home safe mate

I like the guy who came on in the 2nd half on the right, he changed the game for them.

We lack any drive and also have no pace for transitions. Thats something Sterling gave us. Think a big rebuild is needed but do we have the players identified?
