RB Leipzig (H) | Post Match Thread

What a performance. I said to my son at the substitutions that momentum would drop, and it did.

I thought Gomez was excellent when he came on. Very energetic, and did some good stuff. Should boost his confidence.

Not sure what the instructions were after the subs. We cruised and contained. Phillips was efficient. It's unfair to compare him with Rodri, who is probably one of the best in the world in that position, but Phillips' awareness seems low, and his passes whilst all safe, go only the way he is facing. They aren't ambitious or incisive. He needs to improve this part of his game if he wants more playing time.

Got to feel sorry for Alvarez, who came on when a number of our best midfielders had left, meaning he's not seeing as much of the ball. Foden too to a degree.
It's the best we've played since the first Derby.

Goals change the course of games, and when the first two goals are dubious, it's going to affect how the rest of the match plays out. If Leipzig could've kept a clean sheet until the break and Ederson had been shown the red card, who knows what might have happened.

Let me make this clear: City are a WAY better team. They are going to win this fixture 99 out 100 times, especially at the Etihad. But they shouldn't have received those favors from the referee. Leipzig were denied any real shot at this game because of him.

We saw how Milan and Inter went through by digging in and playing ultra defensively (albeit against worse teams). Had a similar referee been in charge of their games, they wouldn't have had a chance.
Such refereeing performances bring the game into a state of disrepute. I don't think it's in City's best interest to win like this either.

In short: Congrats on your advancement. Massive performance. But I don't want to hear you guys ever complain about refs again.
You must have missed the handball in the previous game.
Stick to watching Thursday night football.

The penalty was soft & I'd be pissed if it was awarded against us, BUT it was VAR who spotted the handball & advised the ref to look. The defender's arm was outstretched & the headed ball brushed his arm, albeit unintentionally. By the unfair letter of the law, it's a penalty. How is that the Ref's fault? It's the laws of the game that need looking at again.

How was Haaland's second goal "dubious"? KDB shot & hit the crossbar & Haaland was on hand to head in the rebound, so again what was "dubious" about that goal?

As for Ederson, yes his tackle was rash, but the ball clearly brushed the top of his shin. There were also two defenders beyond him, not to mention the player alongside the Leipsig player who got clattered. The Ref saw no issues & neither did VAR. Even if Ederson had missed the ball, the worst he'd have got was a foul awarded against him & a yellow card.

The Ref wasn't unduly lenient & nor did he favour City, especially because the penalty & Ederson challenge were adjudicated by VAR, & the Ref was guided by their advice. So are you saying VAR were in on last night's travesty too?

I'll say this as politely as I can... Go fuck yourself you bitter Tarquin twat! We batter Leipsig 7-0 & you have the utter gall to come onto a City forum claiming our victory was littered with favour toward City & we were essentially lucky because we had a bent referee?

Mate, have you actually heard yourself? :-/
Applause!!!

I'm confused.
After last night's "strange" decisions, will we be booing in the future?

I think the first two goals were a bit questionable, didn't think the first was a pen and i fully expected the second to be taken away as a foul from Haaland on the keeper. BUT its about time we get something in Europe to go our way, and it was a brilliant performance. RBL were clearly outmatched here, we kind of let them back in it in the second half of the first leg but not this time.

I seem to remember Viera consistently handling the ball whenever Arsenal defended a corner. He would jump with both arms in the air, the ball hitting his arm and no penalty given. This happened week after week and was a constant source of discussion on MOTD.

We have had many blatant pens denied us in both the EPL and Europe. Anyway, City won 7 0 so go fk yourself.

City usually run German teams into the ground, and judging from previous victories over Hoffenheim, Schalke, Monchenglabach, and Dortmund, they tend to struggle with our energy levels and visibly wilt towards the end.

Last night was no different, and perhaps aided by a bizarre penalty decision (neatly compensating for the non-penalty in Leipzig), City were simply far too strong.

Still a big flashing blue light over Ederson and Akanji's distribution (what the hell is up with Laporte?) but for the moment we’ll just have to wait for the draw on Friday and pray that it doesn’t ultimately cost us
