Re: City v Swansea pre-match thread

How long have you supported Manchester City and what first got you interested?
Since I was about 4/5 years old. First game at 7/8. I remember my cousin pushing me to support United like him because it was the 'obvious choice' and they were the 'better club'. I was even named after a United player thanks to my Granddad's influence, but I've always liked an underdog :P

Who would you support if your team wasn’t around?

Most likely Stockport County. Would probably still go to the odd game when City are not playing, if not for their desire to see us as a genuine rival since the 90s, when they were on the up and we were on the down.

Are you a season ticket holder?
Not any more. Part due to finances, part due to other weekend commitments. I am still a member of the scheme here though.

Do you mostly go to home or away matches?
Mostly home, but been to a few away games in my time. Bury away in the poring rain was a sobering experience, and Blackpool is a good weekend away.

Who is your all-time favourite player at your club?
I really liked David White and Paul Lake in the 80s when I first started going. I'll go with David White, just.

Who is your present favourite player at your club?

David Silva. A joy to watch and the right attitude off the field too. We often wondered at City what it would be like to have Gio Kinkladze, our mid 90s hero, in a team of better quality. I think Silva is as close as we will get - Gio was a better dribbler but Silva works harder.

What was the most important goal scored for your club and who scored it?

Probably Paul Dickov's goal at Wembley to get it back to 2-2 against Gillingham in the Second Division Play-Off. More recently, Yaya's contributions at Wembley in the semi and final were crucial for the future of this club.

Which (if any!!) of our players do you like?
I confess I don't really know of any in much detail. We were linked with Rangel a couple of seasons back. Some of your lads have been in our league before but not come up with the goods - Routledge, Lita, Sinclair but most seem to have time on their side.

What’s your prediction for our match, goal scorers etc.
I don't think it will be anything like the walk over that some are suggesting - any City fan who has been following the club for more than a couple of season will anticipate that! We're rusty and you are keen to impress. But I think home advantage will play it's part and it will end up anywhere between 1-0 and 3-0 to us. I'd expect Dzeko to be amongst the goals.

Which team are your local and/or premiership rivals?
Pretty obvious one for us. Though we have deveoped a distaste for Spurs and Arsenal fans in recent seasons. Particularly the Arse, who feel aggrieved at losing their god-given top 4 status to us.

What league position do you think that you/we will achieve?
You have to be optimistic so why not top? Top 3 is probably the target, but we have to aim for the top. Looking in your squad list, I do think you will struggle. Staying up would be exceeding most people's expectations, but is not unrealistic. There are always one or two Premier League clubs who go into fee-fall - Wigan and Blackburn look suspect this year.

Glory – hunting fans are, if we are being honest, probably starting to creep into our own club now. I do hope they understand that that is not what Man City is all about. I can honestly say, with my almost 3 decades as a supporter, winning is not everything. And contrary to what the Reds down the road keep telling anyone who will listen, not winning stuff does not make you a bad club.

Referees are…. all too often conned by players and in need of technological support. Take Barton yesterday, and Gervinho. Bad as each other. Would instant replays for the officials really be that hard to implement at higher levels? The argument we always hear is that it makes the game different at our level to that of grass roots, but with the mount of money flying about nowadays for getting to the next round of the cup, or staying up on the last day of the season thanks to that dodgy penalty... should have been trialled years ago.

I expect us to win but it will not be an easy game as some think
I wouldn't say i'm worried about it but i am slightly nervous simply because they are a newly promoted team, first time in the league, and they will be up for it no doubt.

Re: City v Swansea pre-match thread

if Swansea at home isn't a game to play 4 attacking players, when is? Really hope we go AJ/Silva/Dzeko/Balo instead of NDJ, Yaya, Barry/Milner
