10 nil, aguero all 10 lol

It's easy to take a swipe at the Welsh teams when you don't know the history involved.

Swansea City were founder members of the old third division in 1920 along with another Welsh Team in Newport County, I believe our friends from up the M4 were invited to join the Southern League some ten years earlier in 1910 but had to turn it down because they didn't have a suitable ground until the following season when they moved to the former Ninian Park, so the roots of Welsh teams in the English league system go back over 100yrs.

If you are so confident of such a convincing victory why are you complaining as it should be an easy 6 pts for you this season.

Back to the decent City fans who don't have nationalistic chip on their shoulder, I do think the best the Swans can hope for is a draw and even that's a big ask when you consider the massive gulf between the 2 clubs. I work with a City fan and he is not underestimating the Swans at all, he still thinks City will win but not as comfortable as some are making it out to be.

My head says 3-1
Heart says 2-2

Good luck for the season anyway, let's hope it's the blue side of Manchester that's -celebrating come May as I can't stand that Bacon faced toss-pot that is Ferguson!

DS

Well put DS - welcome to the PL. I'm looking forward to seeing how you set up on monday.

Thank you PowderBlue! The Swans will undoubtedly play a 4 5 1 formation, with the wingers helping the lone striker, so effectively a 4 5 1 becomes a 4 3 3. I don't think we'll be coming to defend so it should be an open, free flowing attacking game from both sides!

Looking forward to it!

Thank you too Rammyblue! Blimey you know your history!! I'm just hoping for us to play well and that it's a great spectacle for those watching on TV.

Re: City v Swansea pre-match thread

Two big tests on Monday: -
1. Will Swansea lift themselves enough to batter a point out of the game? - I doubt it as I fully expect us to come out of the blocks at a sprint to prove a point and take 3.
2. Will the Swansea fans represent the Welsh national character by singing us all to sleep - little brightly scrubbed welsh faces aloft and tonsils exposed to the grey skies of Manchester? - I doubt that also but hope they travel to their 1st PL game in numbers and have a good go at it . . good to have the away fans packed in and vocal .. good atmosphere and plenty of banter.

I for one am delighted to see Swansea bringing Welsh representation to the top table and while I can't see them doing anything better than singing defiantly for 90 minutes and putting on a brave but futile show, I do hope that they out-perform the other smaller sides during the season and stay in the top flight for many years.

Re: City v Swansea pre-match thread

Looks like Mike Dean is ref for this one. One of the better ones in the Prem.

How long have you supported Manchester City and what first got you interested?
Since the age of 7 in 1999. Dad took me to a Division 1 match against Barnsley at Maine Road, which we won 3-1. Was instantly hooked.

Who would you support if your team wasn’t around?
Unthinkable, but I'd probably say Hyde.

Are you a season ticket holder?
Yep.

Do you mostly go to home or away matches?
Every home match but go away when I can

Who is your all-time favourite player at your club?
I've only been going for 12 years so I'd have to say Goater.

Who is your present favourite player at your club?
Kompany or De Jong.

What was the most important goal scored for your club and who scored it?
Yaya Toure, Semi Final against United. A huge step to eventually getting the 35 year monkey off our backs, even more symbolic that it was against 'them'.

Hopefully 3-1 City; Dzeko (2) Yaya, with Sinclair for you. Can see it being close though.

Fairly obvious!

Hopefully progress for us, would love us to finish top but think it'll be 2nd; as for you I think you'll stay up.

Re: City v Swansea pre-match thread

Welcome to the board mate, good luck to the Swans. Caught a few games last season and looked impressive.

How long have you supported Manchester City and what first got you interested?

I've been a City fan for as long as I can remember due to me being brought up in a family of blues (except for my turncoat aunt). Strangely enough I can't pinpoint one exact thing that peaked my interest, it was a gathering of things I suppose.

Who would you support if your team wasn’t around?

It's unimaginable, I can't even consider it to be honest.

Are you a season ticket holder?

No, unfortunately :(

Do you mostly go to home or away matches?

Home, though looking at a few away matches this year to mix it up a bit.

Who is your all-time favourite player at your club?

A toss up between Shaun Goater and Kevin Horlock

Who is your present favourite player at your club?

Nigel De Jong

What was the most important goal scored for your club and who scored it?

Toure against Stoke or Dickov against Gillingham, both for completely different reasons.

Which (if any!!) of our players do you like?

Sinclair

What’s your prediction for our match, goal scorers etc.

I'm going to go for a solid 2-0 (Dzeko for a brace). But I think Swansea will definitely give it a good go and force a few nervy moments.

Which team are your local and/or premiership rivals?

The rags

What league position do you think that you/we will achieve?

City: 2nd.
Swans: Hard to predict really, I'm actually going to say mid table because if you can keep the momentum of football you had going in the championship tagged with a bit of steel at the back you will do well.
