Real Madrid (A) | CL | Post Match Thread

I don't think you can take too much from a game in which we were without Haaland and then we lose Stones after 5 minutes when already without Akanji leaving Dias and Ake to cope with Mbappe and neither are quick.
We were one nil down after 4 minutes.
Stones was still on the pitch and Haaland wouldn't have even touched the ball at that stage.
We were totally outclassed all over the pitch.

wonder what Khaldoon makes of all this. I hope he instructs Soriano to wake up and build this side up again to that level where it was.
but the big question why did we let it weaken like this. its not like we had a great period 20 years ago we were on top just 2-3 years ago. top of the world football. now we are facing 1-2 seasons of a big rebuild, lots of money to be spent while we get even close to where we were and it might happen, might not.

strengthen while you are ahead, while you are top. what we did is weakened ourselves and become comfortable just when we got to the absolute top. it got to the point we are comfortable to go into the season with very old players past their best, thin squad while the fixture schedule just keeps growing. mental.

It felt like a business decision to throw in the towel tonight when we went 2-0 down. It was like a pre-arranged boardroom plan to try and stay in the competition as long as possible but accept defeat rather than fight for pride and save ourselves for the league and cup instead.

I don't believe that's what actually occured but at 2-0 down and 3-0 on aggregate Real would still have thrown the kitchen sink at us. On tonight's showing we would have fitted it and chucked on some taps too.

Would you spend £20k on a new kitchen if you thought your wife would file for a divorce?
Just maybe the club needed Pep to sort out his private life before committing to spending 100’s of millions on new players , funny isn’t it , now that he’s commited, we immediately started strengthening the squad.
Coupled with us employing a new DOF at the same time.
Just sometimes it’s not all about what happens inside the clubs, people’s private lives just may come into things , and that’s how our club is run.
At least we aren’t making redundant our best ever manager like that shower of shite over the road.

Not really bothered. There was little chance with Haaland and none without him. No point in boring on and on about how slow our old legends are and how we need new players. It’s being fixed.

Khusanov and Dias didn't give up.

We had an impossible job when we went 1-0 down and lost Stones. We actually kept going but we couldn't get close to the ball and pressure them. I think your comment is wrong. It's not zero fight. We are just not physically able to compete at this level especially with injuries
There was still enough quality in our eleven to make a lot better fist of it than was shown. We downed tools when they scored their first and players looked lost and scared, it was garbage

The biggest and glaring thing is NO Full Backs in the Squad, We have just had the winter window and Knew Walker was leaving and still never signed any Full Backs,

The Fans wanting Pep OUT should hang their hands in shame. Yes, the buck stops at his door but many things behind the scenes we don't get to see could and have tied his hands and maybe nothing else could be done to help this season, I get the NO need to panic buy, but even getting somebody on loan to play full-back would have balanced the team in the short term

I hate Losing and watching players coasting, tonight many of that team were in no way under pressure to perform to the point that captain Dias turned off and made the mistake we all are getting used to seeing.

Maybe we didn't fancy the fight tonight and have bigger games coming up for the future of next season's plans
A top 4 place is at stake and maybe a FA Cup final again so can understand the risk and reward. But I hate watching us buckle and wave the white flag tonight
I mocked Gareth fucking Southgate for his obsession with too many right backs and never selecting a left back but we’ve not bought a left back for 8 years and the right back situation is comical. I just want to see us play with two proper full backs.

And then we have Gundogan in midfield. Please Pep stop playing Gundogan and KDB in these intense matches. Its like carrying a passenger and you can't at this level.

Play Mcatee or O'Reilly.

Equally we are playing a Madrid team who didn't make the top 8. It was a playoff not a semi final. That Real side is better than their results granted, but it isn't anywhere near as good as we helped them look. We have to be competing much more than we did regardless of a couple of players missing. It just highlights the issues we face to return to the top table.

I don't think we are far away domestically. But there's no time for new players now. The ones we have bought recently need to deliver now. The former greats can't give them the time they need to adapt and integrate. Time they benefitted from when our squad planning was much more successful.

The jury is out on so many of our players. Savinho might look like the business on occasion but he needs to be consistently showing that along with many others. Rodri makes a huge difference granted, but others need to step up.

Getting rid of our most successful ever manager and perhaps the greatest ever. A manager all his peers hold in the highest esteem, recognised as the best.

Yeah, that’s definitely the answer.

I am reading his latest book, its a pattern and always repeated.

Whatever he was describing few years ago, its the same.

I will keep him for one more season, hopefully next season he can win the league and then we can say goodbye to Pep.

I feel relieved if I'm being honest.

It's no bad thing beating dominated by the best team in Europe and one of the world's best strikers showing up.

We can start rebuilding properly now and manage the squad accordingly.
This evening was a reminder of what's required moving forward. Some big decisions to be made in the summer with a few in this squad.

Have said it before.
These players are knackered, both mentally and physically from playing every single game they could have at club and national level for the past 4-5 years.
It’s finally taken it’s toll.
Getting knocked out at an early stage of a competition we are just not good enough to win in our current state is a blessing.
It will drastically reduce the number of fixtures and lengthy travels and give the squad a much needed rest.
Concentrate on top 4 and a flutter with the FA cup will do just fine. It’s just not feasible to sustain the levels we have achieved for any longer.
Next season will be a different story once much needed summer squad refreshment happens.
Those calling for Pep to go should give their heads a fucking massive wobble. He’s still the best.
