Real Madrid (A) | CL | Post Match Thread

Because they're fucking angry at last nights debacle which was totally avoidable. An abomination of a team selection and tactical set up. Saturday was an excellent performance with pace and intensity and was rightly praised just as last night's shit show needs to be called out. When we play well and win posters are happy and don't feel the need to vent ,it's called emotion. Whatever happens next week and if we play well and go down swinging I'll be as delighted as the next man but it will do nothing to apease the annoyance at last nights horror. Maybe if the players were as annoyed as the fans we might produce a night to remember.

Maybe if the club hierarchy were as annoyed as the fans we might see a few over-indulged lazy arses kicked into shape, and serious questions being asked over wasting money on very average signings.

They're too busy playing Monopoly, building hotels and entertainment venues.

We did score v Forest from a corner

Far and few between though, aren't they ??

On the rare occasion that we do get a corner kick right it seems to take everybody by surprise, Pep, his coaches and the fans .... our corner kicks are usually more of a 'springboard tool' that the opposition can use to launch counter attacks, rather than proving to be of any real benefit to ourselves !

Was never going to be anything different from you on a normal day, and last night obviously provides increased oxygen for your criticisms but at least you are consistent.

And the poster you are currently arselicking wakes up with the sole aim of inflicting more negativity upon the world, so you are in good company.

Plenty of the posters slagging us off never post when we win mate..
When people post on whether we win or not that's good.. But posting only when we lose is odd behavior in my opinion
Bit like walking into a restaurant. If the meal is really good do people go on Facebook etc and say how good it was. But If they go in the same restaurant and its garbage they plaster it all over social media.

The times we live in now.

What. A. Post. Unbelievable.

As soon as we saw the team we all knew. Nunes has been our best player this season, NOR has been brilliant since his move to midfield, Rodri isn't anywhere near to his best yet and Nico G is currently a better option, Cherki always has to be in our best 11 and Haaland hasn't had a good game for weeks. Last night was on Pep. To play that open was embarrassing.

Wanted to wait till this morning to post as I was somewhat frustrated / emotional and angry last night,
So my take. That was literally the worst team selection since Porto (1), United a(2 this season).
The players need to take some ownership of the performance but Pep takes the responsibility for me.
Ait Nouri Left back, Nunes Right back should have started. Get Nico in the middle with Rodri and Nico G, Cherki should have started and Marmoush deserved to start all day long. A midfield of Bernardo and Rodri was so bizarre.
Savio..so 1 good game and he deserves to start versus Real Madrid?? Fuck that.
City need to stop buying players who have potential and start buying ready made world class winners.
From Sane, Mahrez and Sterling to Doku and Savio.
Doku is a show pony I am afraid. Yeah he made a few dangerous runs which the forwards should have got on the end of but all fur coat no knickers for me is Doku. 2 good games this season for Doku Liverpool at home and United at home. The rest, standard 5 or 6 out of 10
Haaland..Great goal scorer but his performances in big games are abysmal. Would I sell him?? I am not sure but we simply do not play to his strengths at all and look a lot more fluid without him.
I am not worried should Pep decide to leave now. I think it is a bit to predictable.
In a bizarre way at least being 3 down allows us the freedom to just go for it. Get a goal in the 1st 15mins and we just never know. It is doable but very improbable.

My thoughts exactly. Some fans are just not supporters

For me, Pep’s main mistake was playing Semenyo/Savinho over Cherki. We'd have created more chances with Cherki from the start. It's not like Cherki isn't productive.

Tbf, we had several good attacks when it was still 0:0. Had we scored 1st and Real opened up trying to equalise, then having Semenyo/Savinho on the counter could have been great.

Football is mostly non-linear: small things can have huge effects.

Imo, the right thing would have been to play the team that won at Anfield with Doku for Marmoush and maybe Cherki for Semenyo.

With pep we know he will think everything through and he believed that team would get a result. Think pep didn’t expect how Madrid played plus the individual mistakes pep can’t do anything about that!

I've calmed down today, a bit, after what was a desperately disappointing evening in Madrid. I'm not as harsh on Pep as many are these days, but picking Doku, Semnyo and Savinho did seem odd. However Semenyo has played as an auxilliary striker quite a bit so far. Despite being good at Newcastle, Savinho's selection felt rushed, and i think Cherki would have been better suited. Aside from that, i think it was all fine, as Pep countered himself O'Reilly has done plenty at LB this year.

Which brings me to the main man of the evening, Nico O'Reilly, who had a game to remember for many reasons. A horror first half could so easily have been mitigated with 2 goals in the 2nd. He took up some good positions when in midfield but the back post miss and the prod at Courtois should have yielded at least 1 goal, if not 2.

Rodri was hot and cold, got the ball moving but equally looked a little slow and sloppy at times. Doku dazzled but i felt when it came to the crunch he dithered. Haaland was a massive disappointment - no his service is not good at the moment but i feel that neither is he, it's a real 50/50 situation. Dias and Donna with some mistakes, the latter saving a pen but bizarrely pulling his hand away for their first.

I'm going to say that was equally, if not more, chastising than our 4-0 on them the other year. With an early goal on Tuesday i hope we can all get into it. I believe just 1 away goal would have kept a decent seam of belief in the team and fans, but it looks a really uphill battle now. Still, got to give it a really good go.

We wouldnt have beaten Bayern anyway would we? ;)

I'm glad I don't have social media apart from WhatsApp and blue moon

Well I certainly expected Real Madrid to play that way, so I'm curious as to why Pep wouldn't.....the game was more or less a replica of our game there the other year when Mbappe lobbed over our keeper as part of his City demolition act !!

Once again their pace caught us out, when we know only too well they rely on it ... the fact that our defending was absolutely abysmal only added to the torture.

If half of our players were as consistent as I am, we'd do the quadruple this season.

I speak as I find. Whether or not you agree matters not one jot to me. Like me, you're just another punter voicing opinions on a football forum. Don't put yourself up as a 'top fan' just because you like the owners and coach.

Exactly that, spot on. We keep buying good players for 60-70 mil and most dont fit Peps football, splash 100 for world class players.
Probably truth in what you say (and I've been crying out for a pair of dedicated fullbacks for over a year), but what a depressing state of affairs when the only solution is to buy, buy, buy?

Hypothetical, but imagine having a team of the greatest players in the world, all bought at once, and winning everything immediately. There would be absolutely zero pleasure in it, for me at least.

Obviously, Pep's golden players didn't all come cheap, but there was real pride in knowing that they still needed his coaching, team ethic etc... the whole package of which unique coaching techniques (so I thought) was the key component. A nurtured team, not a bought one. That USP is what I miss the most.

Apologies - the witterings of a romantic FOC.

You’re dead right and the effect it has on me is pure anger at their attitude. It makes me feel defensive even if we’ve played sh*t. Pep has the odd brain fart re team selection - in 10 years - and suddenly these so called fans forget everything he’s achieved, think they know better than him, and want him out.

I wonder if many are just armchair supporters. In any case - I think the so called “tourists” who turn up, pay the earth to do so, but thoroughly enjoy the game are preferable to all the moaning, short memories on here.
