Real Madrid (A) | CL | Post Match Thread

Prioritise the two domestic cups now as the Madrid tie is over

Pick the strongest team for Wembley and play everybody else in the 2nd leg v Madrid

Arsenal are going to have to play their strongest team v Levurkusen so doing this would vastly improve our chances of winning the carabou cup
Haha

Anybody who cant make it to the game, give me a PM if you want somebody to fill your seat (2 seats would be even better). It could be epic.

The club have brainwashed us into accepting mediocre players.

3 years ago if someone had said we would be buying players from Bournemouth, Wolves, Crystal Palace and Forest I would have have thought they had gone insane.
Not sure the selling club is that important, we bought Vinny from Hamburg, David from Valencia, KDB from Wolfsburg and Nasri from Arsenal. None of those clubs can be considered European 'heavyweights', they're all med.

That’s really sad. No wonder Pep seems to get emotional every time he is asked about Phil. I’m gutted for Phil having struggled with major health problems in the last three years. Your health is more important than any sport.
It's still rumours - I just wish the club could sensitively deal with these rumours.

He did brilliantly to steal a stab at goal, to criticise him for not directing it is going too far surely?
Correct, O'Reilly did brilliantly to read the situation and get to the ball (he's having a brilliant season). Not a criticism of his contact with the ball, but no doubt he's replayed it in his mind a few times.

Even with seven regulars out, sadly
When we have half the team out injured, the media and pundits do not cut us any slack - fair enough. Same should apply to Madrid - Madrid the club that needed state bailouts having spent money they didn't have to buy European Cups and Champions Leagues.

Whats so great about Gibbs white & Anderson , they scored two goals against us ? Dont rate either of them , they play for mid table team at best , they look good when surrounded by average players , they have been part of England squads that have beaten the mighty Albania , Serbia , Wales , latvia the greats of european football. They are not top quality , they are above average players , we went through all this shit with Kalvin Phillips "the Pirlo of Yorkshire"
Forest will demand between £75m and £100m for them and they will want a minimum of £250k a week , quite sure we can scour europe and buy real quality for this money.
Agree with this

Gibbs White is a slightly more mobile version of Rico Lewis, why would we pay £70m for him.

Anderson is robust and athletic but doesnt look anything like top class

I think because we haven't had a central midfielder with a real engine who could get up and down the pitch since peak KDB, some blues see a box to box midfielder haring athletically around and think he'd be great for us because we don't have that in the middle of the park. But athleticism alone is way way short of what we demand from a central midfielder

Loose-tongued people in junior admin roles at the club have let it slip that it's Crohns and City are working with the world's best medics to address it. Very debilitating. I wish the club would say he's playing with a medical condition.

We all know that a healthy Phil takes the ball on the half turn surrounded by close marking defenders, rolls them and surges forward with the ball under control before firing off a precision shot. At the moment he's recycling the ball - five and ten yard passes with none of the usual surge.
Have also heard the IBD/colitis rumours for some time now. I'm not even ITK and I never get info, but I've heard too many things from too many people who don't know each other. A work colleague of mine who runs a United supporters club told me Phil was dealing with "the same thing Fletcher had", then a few weeks after that my driving instructor said he'd just started teaching a lad who was "Foden's new chef, part of a big regime change". Neither of them know each other or would have any reason to make this stuff up. Have also made a few enquiries of my own in my spare time - just cos I have gastro illnesses as well and I'm curious about this stuff - and have been told that the IBD/colitis rumours aren't false. Now you've said this. Phil's weight loss is quite noticeable now and I'm seriously worried for him.

Very true - as in life. Pep's success is predicated on his willingness to take risks, risks based on his vision, his creativity and often, his genius. So many times over the years it has been the difference between the Club that he is managing achieving incredible success, and the rest.

And sometimes it goes tits-up. So it was last night.

I don't think that this one is done and dusted quite yet.
Pep is a visionary who plays counter intuitive football - passing to players being tightly marked - keeping the ball in tight areas of the pitch to pull the opposition out of shape - and taking risks. This is why Pep walks on water for me. We have to accept that occasionally it will go wrong and we'll all be pissed off and let off steam.

Good post, but I would say
Rodri is miles off it and should be nowhere near our current best 11
O’Reilly isn’t a left back and has been caught out too many times playing here
Nunes may not be world class, but has been one of our better and most consistent performers this season

We needed legs in midfield last night and had none
I’ve said it a million times now…the future, esp in English football, is size, speed and strength.

They didn’t really get smacked they really put it on them in the 2nd leg. Anyway, Arsenal had the physicality over Bayern so it’s a worry. Everything is perfectly set for Arsenal unfortunately
They barely scrapped one goal against PSG, late in the game which meant nothing anymore. Bayern will dominate them in a final because they'll have a colossal confidence from beating Madrid & PSG. Assna won't get tested enough by Leverkusen & Bodo. A club that has a more difficult route always wins it because the confidence they get on the tougher road gives them an edge. And considering their current form, especially outside the PL, I'm not even sure if they'll go through Bodo anymore.

I agree with much of that. But after the 1st half we had to create more chances and we kept one of the best chance creators in Europe in Cherki for another 25 minutes on the bench.

Savinho/Semenyo instead of RAN was a bit arrogant and we were seriously punished for it.

Pep wanted to humiliate them and that didn't end well. Like others, he underestimated them big time.
Yes, Cherki and RAN should probably have come on at half-time. I assume Pep decided to wait with the changes after Real switched to a back five early in the second half. I also think Arbeloa deserves some credit — he put on a tactical masterclass. Unlike Pep, he had the advantage of being able to anticipate how the opposition would play.
