Real Madrid (A) Post Match Thread

No. It was a fluke two minutes in a cup competition where you need skill and luck. We didn’t have the luck last night. We’ll be back.
I agree with this. I think we played the game exactly as we needed to. They hardly tribled Eddy the whole game and only opened us up once, at the beginning of the second half. We were out done by two crosses into our box. The fault was allowing those crossing to come in. They just crowded the box with as many bodies as they could, hoping for a break. They got them.

So you are pretty much advocating ripping apart the squad that was within 5 minutes of getting to the final? Football is based on fine margins, like Courtois getting a single stud to Grealish's shot to go 2 up, not to mention the clear way the game was manipulated by the ref just as a couple of examples. Some on here have clearly been spoiled in regard just what they expect and it feels sometimes like there's an entitlement to the right result.

Look to the future, don't get stuck in the present. It very quickly becomes the past.

There's a steep cliff on the horizon, we have to be prepared for a future without Pep

It was good for 89, but was let down by poor decision making off the field, and a lack of composure on it, the former of which contributed to the latter.

In my opinion..... Pep takes some of the blame. In that situation, to take off KDB was an extreamly poor decision. It was also a poor decision to play Walker, who clearly was unlikely to play the 90 minutes, leaving a situation where you have to switch full-backs in a game where the opposition had one of the best wingers on the planet.

That said, the full backs in the final few minutes were an asbolute shambles. they simply cannot....cannot allow crosses to be made. Yet RM wide men flung in cross after cross, without interception or being closed down.

Its obvious that to win the CL you need a few things; Experience, skill, decent decision making, and some luck. And you need it all in the same season.
You do realize when he took kdb off for gundo we scored right? Lmao pep did everything right over both legs. He doesn’t play. How many chances did we have to finish the game first leg? This is zero % peps fault

Five out, KDB to stay another year but played selectively rather than burning him out.

Bernardo should walk if we don't significantly strengthen the squad.
Haha you truly are delusional

Let's get rid of 5 players from a squad of only 16 lmfao

We'd have to sign 10 players.

Yes it hurts, thats football, think of how Gillingham fans felt when we did to them.

Jinx

Cancelo has been superb this year, Zincho a very able deputy, Ake has done well there and you cant legislate for that prick Mendy's sexual pecadillos.

We haven't played with a striker for ages, that has not stopped us winning and competing. As for Ferna, he was 37 yesterday and was on the bench in his final season, Madrid started Modric 36 and Kroos 34

So i assume you believe the bad recruitment is not buying a striker, who wouldn't have played in our system. That makes sense. We buy a striker, we playa different system and change a system that has brought us 3 titles in 4 years and possibly 4 in 5.

That was the price, he almost won us the game last night, then he would have looked cheap at the price.

Negligent, thats a strong word, we are one of the best teams in the world.

Foden is integral, Palmer is getting there, do you want inexperienced players to play in front of established world class players?

You have taken defeat badly, that would be insane.

What do you know of our scouting system, because i know very little, but it has helped us buy players that are world class,.

Happy Birthday, have a good drink and keep smiling

Our day will come.
top stuff Russ

You’re going to get so much flack for this but there are some home truths in this post that people won’t want to hear.
Water off a duck's back Johnny.

Some fans kick up a fuss, particularly on the KDB comment but if JWP was to sign for us, they'll be on here singing his praises!

We're a funny bunch us football fans

Sorry if already covered, I've only just summoned the courage to come on here and haven't trawled through 250 pages but...does anybody know the expected goals stats for both sides over the 2 legs? I would imagine it's something like 8-4 and just goes to underline the desperate need for a top-class striker or two.

He also says Foden and grealish are not ready for top level but wants Palmer and ward lol
Where did I say that about Palmer?

I said he would have made more of an impact than Raheem last night. He's one for the future, possibly 2 years time.

Foden and Grealish are a distance from being top class, give them more time to develop their games and you'll see very good players. Neither should be a regular starter in big games imo (including for England) they're overrated at the moment, but will improve.

It's revisionism at best mate.

How many goals are enough?

One more than an opponent, every time, that's all it ever takes.

Scored six against Monaco, four against Spurs, five against Madrid...

Two games with Sergio.

A striker makes the difference when the games are tight, not when you are conceding five against Monaco, five against Liverpool, four against Spurs, six against Madrid.

It's a collective mental issue in the biggest moments.

Platt used to say Dzeko scored 'heavy goals' which is what I think people are trying to argue we don't have, but five goals across the two ties with Madrid hides the fact our defending was pathetic.
Respect your opinion and to a degree you are right but 1 or 2 chances taken earlier in the game would have killed it.

Plus, taking your argument in PL terms a single goal against Southampton or Palace would mean a 3 or 5 point cushion now.

Mark my words I am still convinced that in one of the remaining games we will struggle to convert chances again and a top striker would be the difference.

Hopefully we learn from this and don’t have another poorly thought out transfer strategy in the summer a la Kompany replacement and Kane pantomime.

As I said, respect your opinion but I have mine and only time will tell. Putting the ball in the net not only changes results but also perception.

Ederson in the top 3 keepers in the world, he's nowhere near that level, he was a novelty when he arrived with his passing ability, he's regressed massively, he's become complacent, he very rarely makes saves that he shouldn't be making, he buckles in the big games, any manager bar Pep would bench him.
The only thing more laughable than this post is the fact that 3 people liked it. Utterly deluded. Name 3 keepers who are better and would suit our play

XG according to the Internet was MC 4.38 to RM 4.28 over the two legs.

You’re having a shocker fella. You’ve made a complete tit of yourself. Have a rest.

Ederson isnt even top 3 in the premier league. He’s a below average shot stopper which as Liverpool and United show makes a huge difference.

His play outside the box, coming off his line is good. with his feet hes the best ever.

but is it enough?
