Real Madrid (A) Post Match Thread

With Haaland and Alaverz up front next season, we'll smash teams. This season we've scored as many goals without a striker in the PL, as Liverpool's famed attack has. Unfortnately we haven't scored more goals and finished teams off that a Haaland and Alaverz will do next seasom.

I can wait another season for the CL. It will happen.

The biggest observation I am seeing is I know our match went into extra game and Madris is a much tougher game then Villarreal but Liverpool's fitness levels look vastly superior and they are not picking up any barely any injuries.
An obvious question which maybe we don't know but why is this?

Some of this comes down to the manager.
No way. His fight and character was badly needed on the pitch. Pep creates wonderful teams but as we have seen numerous times in this competition and to our detriment, the players let us down individually. He makes some of them look better than they are it’s why we come up short in 1 off big games.

Teams win league titles but individuals win the champions league.

Not having a shot in 90 minutes is irrelevant if the game lasts 98 and they manage 2 shots and score twice in those extra 8 minutes.
The shots on target wasn’t that relevant last night. It makes it sound like Madrid were no threat until they last 5 mins. They were a threat all night and I thought until we scored they were the better team. Our first 15 mins of each half was not good at all.

Agree, Pep needs to start putting some more faith in the young players.

Look at Madrid last night they were throwing loads of young players on.

Bringing Fernandinho on was bizzare.
Palmer was coming along nicely until his injury. Can’t expect a young player to be put straight into the first team in must win games after a period out. He needed to be eased back in and there hasn’t been the opportunity to do that.

Delap’s injuries have been very costly for him and City. It really did seem at the start of the season that Pep expected him to play a part.

That said, with a relatively small squad Pep does need to make greater use of the youngsters, but mainly at the start of the season not the business end.

I thought all of Pep’s substitutions made sense, at the time he made them. He’s used Fernandinho plenty of times in the last couple of seasons to see out games and it’s usually worked. The problem was that once we conceded the goals we just didn’t have the right balance to chase the game in extra time.

It really didn’t feel like we did much wrong- just a crazy couple of minutes which left us shell shocked. The one thing we need to do in future is what everyone else likes to call ‘experience’ which is the time-wasting and rolling around, it obviously works whilst trying to protect a lead - we could have done that at 1-1, some subs some playacting and the jobs done -
