Real Madrid (A) Post Match Thread

I know its only a game blah blah but this has absolutely knocked me sideways. To go out in the manner we have is just awful. Couldnt sleep last night and ive got up this morning feeling bereft

one minute sat there discussing how we are getting to paris…
The next im on my knees.

To me this is a culmination of a few years bad recruitment . Im repeating myself but we have had no left back for 3 years. No striker for 2/3 years (we knew sergio was finished). And if youre relying on a 37 year in a semi final then we are truly fucked.

Ill back grealish to the hilt because I truly think there is a player there but did we really need to spend £100m on him? Was he really needed?

i KNOW we are top of the league etc but the recruitment the last few years has at best been negligent but at worst heads should roll.

also pep not trusting the youth has heaped more burden on a very thin squad.

i dont know where we go from here. Sack pep? I feel like it right now if im honest but maybe ill feel better as the day goes on. And who would be the alternative?
Sack the barca boys at the top? Maybe but then are they the package with pep?

our scouting system/recruitment needs some sort of overhaul and players brought in who know how to get across this champs league line. Because no matter how much we hate it the club HAVE to win it. Pure and simple. Otherwise we stay at the level below those clubs who have.

rant over… happy fuckin birthday to me :(
Happy Birthday. I think a management structure that has won 3 of the last 4 Premier leagues is just fine as it is. Something nobody has mentioned is the effect losing Benjamin Mendy has had on the club. Nobody could have foreseen that. When he was on fire we had a delivery from the left that was very difficult to defend against. I wont try to pre empt what happens in his court case but as a City player it looks to be over. I would imagine that City are overhauling their recruitment system because with Mendy they messed up big time. The positives outweigh the negatives since team Pep arrived. More fine tuning required. Losing hurts. Roll on Sunday.

Just watched back the game from 86:00 to the end about 4 times. My god.

Courtois makes a great save with his studs and then there's a horrendous corner to put Madrid on the attack on about 89:30. The defending from then is non-existent, it's going to be horrendous viewing for the players. There are multiple times to bring it down and slow everything down. We dont. we panic to the extreme and this is pre Madrid scoring the first. The ball is at Eddie's feet on 90:01 after conceding and somehow making a mess of kick off, and Madrid are careering down our right flank on 90:30 again. There is zero control, zero shape. If you can take it I would watch it again.

gutted today.
A friend tells me there are some clubs for that sort of sado masochistic behaviour.

Losing to Real Madrid in the CL semi-final (like that) isn't the end of the world. I know it feels like it is to some people.

Let's put life and football into perspective. We could be 1 of those people, men, women, and children trapped in the Azovstal steelworks with the Russian Army using everything in it's arsenal to try and kill them.

I know it hurts losing to Real Madrid like that, but it's not the end of the World. City will be back in the CL next season. And City could still win the PL title.

Sadly for all those Men, Women, and Children going through unimaginable hell and horror right now in the Azovstal steelworks, it will be the end of their world and their lives.
How incredibly emotive, inappropriate and a pointless analogy to minimize the impact of this loss . I cannot believe anyone actually would bring conflict and war experiences to cope with losing a damn match. Also the fact that I am at best neutral and don't buy Western European narrative for this conflict is also incredibly irritating. Why stop with this war. Might as well add the Srebrenica massacre, the Rape of Nanjing, Babi Yar, the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the Siege of Stalingrad(oh wait doesn't fit the narrative) etc. Have a drink and get over it.

You know that's a very good comment, I am mentally drained too. I just can't believe how we threw it all away, unfathomable. It will take me a few days to get over it.
Still shocked now.

1st leg we should've been out of sight but weren't ruthless enough, which is made considering we scored 4 goals, but in reality we should've had 7. Yesterday we were in control of the game but were very naive at the end despite being the better side.

Can't fault the general performances at all but we need to learnt o handle the CL better in key moments.

The lack of ruthlessness is the story of our season though. The title should be done by now, but the lack of a ruthless streak in attack in certain games has made it a contest.

Just hope we have enough to carry us througbuthe last 4 games but we've been mentally kicked and the players and manager need to respond. I'm just glad our next game is at home, its a good a chance to build back some confidence.

Nah you’re alright mate I’ll give it a miss.

Brave man.

You mad bastard :)

Thanks but no thanks, crumpets, coffee and off down the canal fishing, a couple of good fish landed will take my mind off things:) for a while:(

come on.......you know secretly you want to ;)

i couldnt cope this morning, awake since 5 turning it over in my mind, how does a team go from 2 goals clear and still creating golden chances to suddenly bombing out? i had to know, i had to watch it back. Now i have seen it again, i still dont understand why the players minds flipped after the courtois save, but at least i know how madrid found it so fucking easy to score twice.

Mahrez wasn’t great but scored with the one chance he had. Grealish came in at a stage when the game was won lol, had two great chances scored neither and they scored 3 during his time in pitch. I just think he’s average as fuck. He wasn’t better than Jesus who worked his bollocks off. KDB had a tough night but he also worked his bollocks off.
I'm not getting into the will he/won't he succeed at City stuff about Grealish but he really doesn't work hard enough.
