Real Madrid (A) Post Match Thread

We must also remember that we always get the hardest draws in the champions league knockout stages.
We were a couple of minutes away from knocking out the new Spanish champions, this straight after beating last year's Spanish champions.
Compare this with Benfica who are miles off the top of their shit league and dipping back into Spain Villarreal who's whole population equates to a full house at the Etihad.
The draws for us and the Dippers are total polar opposites.
We gave it a really good go and yes we were nieve not to see the game out, but fuck me Real were lucky bastards.
Anyway its done and we need to keep Our Title.
So let's show the team we are with them in their quest to remain Kings Of ENGLAND

It was good for 89, but was let down by poor decision making off the field, and a lack of composure on it, the former of which contributed to the latter.

In my opinion..... Pep takes some of the blame. In that situation, to take off KDB was an extreamly poor decision. It was also a poor decision to play Walker, who clearly was unlikely to play the 90 minutes, leaving a situation where you have to switch full-backs in a game where the opposition had one of the best wingers on the planet.

That said, the full backs in the final few minutes were an asbolute shambles. they simply cannot....cannot allow crosses to be made. Yet RM wide men flung in cross after cross, without interception or being closed down.

Its obvious that to win the CL you need a few things; Experience, skill, decent decision making, and some luck. And you need it all in the same season.

You don’t know that we could have kept the lead as long as we did had walker not played 70 mins. Vinicius was a constant threat first half and would have torn cancelo apart.

Pep normally changes nothing in games like this and my guess is the walker sub forced the rest that followed. Pep knows zinchenko and cancelo cannot be trusted to defend and so 2 of our most direct attackers were replaced with possession players (Gundo and grealish) to try and see the game out and keep them off our full backs. It just wasn’t enough.

Quick question to anyone with no right answer: Do you feel worse today than the day after losing the UCL final last year?

lets be honest Real is 2-2 in 93rd minute in CL final vs Pool.

they get exact same chance as Mahrez got vs Pool in the league which he lobbed way too over.
imagine that chance falls to Benzema, Vinicius or Rodrigo.

they probably score it and win the CL 3-2.

but probably Mane and Salah too if it happens the other way.

you cannot miss that one or those ones we missed in first leg vs Real. or two Grealish chances yesterday.

I could slap Txiki for that decision of not getting any striker in last summer and havin most of the great chances created for players whose weakness is actual clinical finishing. its such shit we brought on ourselves.

this pretty much cost us the CL and still can cost us the PL too. Spurs away, Palace away, Pool home, if we are more clinical from big chances, this title would be over by now.
we havent created much vs Soton at home, while were total shit vs Palace at home, and defence completely shat the bed vs Spurs at home so these arent really down to our finishing, simply bad day at the office, but above three were points lost due to our horrible finishing. same as Real first leg. they came away with belief from that game instead of a heavy beating.

Awake all night - I love being a blue but that was painful. Scapegoating is totally unnecessary: wait until it's not so raw before you analyse what went wrong. Try and have a good day, everyone.
Same here, could not get to sleep. Still awake at 4am. Replaying the tie in my head. Distraught!

Our current group of players have four games left to deliver what I and many other Blues consider to be the most important trophy.

Win the PL or not, in my opinion, significant changes are needed to update and improve the squad for next season.

On what the club and staff will have considered to be the most important night of the season, a few players demonstrated very clearly that they're either not up to it mentally, or simply aren't good enough.

Cancelo - Inconsistent, indisciplined angry little man. A very average defender whose main contribution to City has been to mask/delay the our continuing need for a proper left back.

Laporte - Just not good enough. Potentially weak character. Can't be trusted. Proved that when he opted to play for Spain when France didn't pick him. Nathan Ake is a far more reliable defender.

De Bruyne -.Went into hiding last night when most needed. Completely overshadowed by the RM midfielders. Certainly nothing like a leader and shouldn't be anywhere near the captain's armband. World class? Not any more he's not. We'll be lucky to get one more good season out of him. I’ve said it before; Ward-Prowse would be a great replacement, and would flourish at City.

Sterling - Time to go. One good game in ten, rarely looks like he's interested. His cameo last night may well have been his last game, he was weak and shockingly poor. Cole Palmer would have been a better option.

Mahrez - Cash in if clubs are offering good money.

Jesus - Another angry little man. Just not good enough against strong, organised defences. Needs to move abroad to improve his game, because it's not developed in the PL.

Bernardo Silva - The bloke is either becoming too good for City, or City aren't good enough for him
If a few players matched his workrate and showed half his passion for the game, we'd have won the CL for the last two seasons and be looking at a third this month.
He would be running the show at a club like RM, and would most likely win both the CL and Ballon d'or within two years.
The best footballer at City by miles. If we don't strengthen the squad considerably in the summer, he could/should be looking for a move.

Foden, Grealish - Not ready for top level yet. Very raw and need another year or two to develop. Foden has been overplayed, Grealish has been overwhelmed by the big move.

Ederson - The Curate's egg. Good in parts (distribution), less good in others (shot stopping). He's been lucky to be playing behind a team who dominate possession in the PL.
That said, there are few better than him at what he does and he fits in for Pep. That's why he'll still be with us next season

Anyone who thinks Haaland is the missing piece in the current squad could be in for a nasty shock. We need fresh young blood, players with genuine hunger and strongmentality, to maintain current levels and improve on them in the next three years.

Is Pep the man to lead the change? If the club still wants to prioritise the CL, I'm genuinely not sure he is. Change is necessary at player level next season imo, and it's going to take someone with fresh ideas, who's likely to be around for longer than two or three years, and doesn't have a monkey on his back.

I think you are keen on binning off 6-7 of the regular "15"? You're entitled to your opinion on that, but it's not really very feasible to expect that to happen. Nor desirable. We need to add to our squad, not decimate it
