Real Madrid (A) Post Match Thread

I think every team is a reflection of their manager, and City is undoubtedly a Pep’s team

Measured, articulate, well drilled and highly technical. In a season of 38 games, these qualities bring titles.

Now their is CL. An agent of chaos. Nothing is perfect and every moment brings something new. We don’t deal with it. We can’t deal with it. As soon as chaos ensues, we lose our head.

Chaos made Ajax reach the semifinal, Spurs final and Chelsea winning CL with Matteo or Liverpool winning against AC Milan.
Or all Real Madrid wins.

all of these teams were less qualified then their opponents, but still managed to win a few. We end up being the AC Milan of 2005, Bayern of 2012. Highly talented team but lost at critical time. The good thing was that they already have won a few so they come back stronger next season.

fairer point being, if we would have learned our lesson at Lyon, Spurs or Monaco - Real Madrid 2022 would have not happened.
Or Maybe I am just ranting after last night defeat.

Still can’t understand how we managed the final few minutes against Atletico yet yesterday our game management was brutal. We were so naive and looked shell shocked once they scored their first. No one took control of the team. We had to slow it down and kill their momentum but instead we panicked.

Absolutely gutted but we only have ourselves to blame, our defending was shocking at times over the 2 legs. I was gutted when I left the home game as we should of been out of site.

Just hope the players can pick themselves up for the last 4 games and win the league

Yes i'm mostly in agreement, just feels at times he never really rescues us with a great save. For me we need a settled back 4 next season where we know our best 4. That doesn't include laporte and does include an actual LB. We need to get away from making do at the back and hopefully get Diaz back to his best which i feel he has been a long way off.
Ederson doesn't make the saves that Courtois made last night but Courtois doesn't help with the build up like Ederson does. It's all down to Pep and what he wants from a GK.

His record since leaving Barcelona in the Champions League makes pretty bleak reading.whilst he was manager of Bayern i remember them getting a good pasting by Real Madrid in a semi-final at home. Bayern fans felt he didn't have what it takes to make them Kings of Europe. Many were happy he left.Clubs like Bayern demand the Trophy.

Bayern dominated possession in that Semi Final 64%

Created 679 passes Madrid 281

He just seems to not be able to deal with high pressure one off later games in the Champions League very well.

He didn't do much wrong tonight other than substitute all our game changers thinking we had won the game. Meaning when we went behind, we literally didn't have a game changing player on the Pitch to change it for us.
I don't buy this narrative. Since 2008, when Pep started coaching, only Zidane has won th CL more times. It's not a title managers win often in their careers.

We conceded 6 goals, the team is built to attack and we were found wanting defensively in both legs. Let's not forget that we fell away defensively against Liverpool in those two games as well. Perhaps we need full time full backs instead of midfield players in some games. All about finding a winning balance which is not easy, what works in the EPL obviously does not work in the CL. We need to adapt.
Nothing wrong with the defence, we have the least goals conceded in the premier league. We were unlucky that is all. I wouldn't change the way we play football , we do need a striker

The game was won.
All that was needed was concentration for a few more minutes. But at least 6 of our players out on the pitch, were already in Paris.
Instead of staying in the now on a pitch in Madrid.

When you work so hard to achieve your goal, why the fuck throw it away?
It’s like a child saving their pennies, to buy that special ice cream only to see it drop to the floor with that first lick!

The problem with a settled back four that doesn’t include Laporte, is that Stones is too often injured, and Stones and Dias are the best pairing.

Sometimes it goes your way, sometimes it doesn't, last night it didn't, that's football it can be so cruel, we now need to bounce back and quickly, come on City.

Feel absolutely numb today, horrible feeling.

We absolutely bottled it at the end, soon as the first goal went in we panicked and never recovered. The first leg is what cost us, should have been atleast 3 up going in to this match.

I'm not blaming the ref or anything because we only have ourselves to blame but when I saw 3 minutes being held up at the end for added time I actually laughed out loud and then continued to shout into a cushion. How the actual fuck? I was expecting atleast 5 or 6. Realistically it was more like 7 or 8 but that was wishful thinking. But 3!! FUCKING THREE! Then he doesn't even play out the full 3 minutes. Absolutely disgusting.

Gutted.
From a brilliant and an easy win as you can get against Madrid to that mad spell.
Not blaming anybody for last night.
Typical City is always going to be there but that was a sore one.

we need rid of
Laporte
Sterling ( that hurts )
Zinc
Edison.

Jack gets one more season .

Usually I think you're on the wind up, but hard to disagree with at least 2 of those. For every worldie he has, Laporte has a shocker (seemingly in the most important games ffs) and I've thought Sterling should move on for a while now.

He'll never get rid of Ederson and to be honest I'm not sure who we could replace him with. Zin is a bit part player, can't fault the lads effort.

I had a hard time rationalizing last years final, but got over it (well one day I will) eventually. This one will forever stick in the craw. We should have buried them at the Etihad. It is and will forever be remembered as another huge missed opportunity. Mentality midgets ffs.
Mentality Midgets or the Bernabeu Bottlers :-)
You’ve got to laugh….it’s the hope that kills you!

He doesn't have a string of collector's item saves to his name for us.

Agree about a settled back four. I'm not unhappy with Cancel at LB but I think Stones, when fully fit, has been our best CB this year.

Dias has not replicated his form of last year so that raises questions. Maybe Stones Dias is our best option.

We do need another LB though in the squad.

Now the dust has settled a little time to reflect on my (and most City fans)emotions of last night.
From feeling pretty confident (ish) to feeling sick, a bit numb and then the old familiar feeling of ' yet again!'
UEFA have got their marketing man's dream final, as their establishment/cartel teams are there.
We can blame the ref, we can say how lucky Real Madrid were. We can even feel we are cursed not to win the bloody thing.
At the end of the day though, we should have been about 9:3 up on aggregate when they scored their first. Same applies to the league games against Liverpool, we should have won both comfortably and now be 6 points ahead in the league.
None of the above happened, you don't put your chances away, you don't defend properly good teams punish you..simple!
We can't control what happens in the finals we're not in. Hopefully Chelsea will feel they need to win the FA Cup to salvage something from their season. Hopefully Real will have the same good fortune against Liverpool (wouldn't bank on it!)
City just need 4 'boring as fuck ' 1:0 wins in the league now! Actually, come to think of it
boring as fuck 3:0 wins (wouldn't trust us going into the final mins with a 1 or even 2 goal lead now would we?)

Yes it hurts, thats football, think of how Gillingham fans felt when we did to them.

Jinx

Cancelo has been superb this year, Zincho a very able deputy, Ake has done well there and you cant legislate for that prick Mendy's sexual pecadillos.

We haven't played with a striker for ages, that has not stopped us winning and competing. As for Ferna, he was 37 yesterday and was on the bench in his final season, Madrid started Modric 36 and Kroos 34

So i assume you believe the bad recruitment is not buying a striker, who wouldn't have played in our system. That makes sense. We buy a striker, we playa different system and change a system that has brought us 3 titles in 4 years and possibly 4 in 5.

That was the price, he almost won us the game last night, then he would have looked cheap at the price.

Negligent, thats a strong word, we are one of the best teams in the world.

Foden is integral, Palmer is getting there, do you want inexperienced players to play in front of established world class players?

You have taken defeat badly, that would be insane.

What do you know of our scouting system, because i know very little, but it has helped us buy players that are world class,.

Happy Birthday, have a good drink and keep smiling

Our day will come.
Well youve truly ripped me a new one there. Im hurting. Im trying to dissect. Some of it is the rambling of a broken man. Some of it i stand by. Some of it ive come on too strong but the point remains

fuck off city :)))

A striker who wasn't a striker.

Outscoring Liverpool without a striker to speak of, winning titles in the process, suggests the lack of a striker is marginal gains at best and revisionism when it's required.

We scored five goals against Real Madrid.

We needed to score six just to take it to penalties.

That would suggest a mentality and a defensive problem, not a lack of goals in the team!
Sorry mate but I disagree.

A Harry Kane would have converted chances earlier in the game so the last minute brain fart would have been irrelevant.

As I keep banging on about, putting the ball in the net when we really need to is our biggest problem.
