Real Madrid (A) | Post Match Thread

We looked knackered, tired passing every time we broke and guilty of trying to overplay again. But, take the draw and hope we dominate them at home, I worry how exhausted we are going to be after a hostile game at Goodison though, we need to try and get that won early and just conserve energy. It must have been in Peps mind not making subs?

Good result. Not our best performance but getting a draw at the Bernabeu when we can play so much better isn't to be sniffed at.

Pep clearly didn't want to take too many chances tonight and I can understand why. I would have considered Gundogan and/or KDB coming off with 10 to go however as both looked out on their arses. I know he didn't want to upset the rhythm but I thought it just invited pressure on us because their energy levels had dropped a fair bit.

Fair fucks to the back 4.

That Vinicius is some player and looks the most likely to unsettle us next week.

Excellent result, and excellent performance

Not sure why people thought we played average. We played one of the best teams in the world away from home, and controlled 60% of the match
Thanks, I was beginning to think the match I watched was in some sort of alternate reality or something. Superb performance against supposedly the best team in Europe/The World on their home turf, in very difficult conditions.

We deserved at least a draw and we're well set for the second leg at home. For the second year running we proved we can match them and then some. Some of the moaners and doubters on here should go watch somebody else, they don't seem to realise how good we are.

Away at Madrid, more than matched them, secured a result that is obviously better for us than them, set ourselves up nicely for the second leg.

Entirely justified to bemoan that we didn‘t show as much as we know we can as an attacking threat, but a lot of the criticism on here was way overboard. An opponent as good as Madrid is allowed to have spells on top against us.

As for the lack of subs - frustrating but hardly a headscratcher. No-one else (including Bernardo) is as good as Gundogan at finding space, keeping the ball and keeping shape in the middle, and neither Foden nor Mahrez can match Bernardo for defensive work, tactical discipline and pressing. So as much as both struggled later on, it was always unlikely that Pep would make changes with things being so tight.

Could have been better, but a good night.

Not having any of the fucking moaners here. Sorry we aren't blowing Real Madrid away at the Bernabéu 4-0, and I'm sorry if the football sometimes isn't as comfortable to watch as Corrie.

That's a spectacular away result in a CL semi final, and a mature, sensible performance. We've taken every hit they can give us in terrible conditions, a partisan crowd, and a very talented football team, and came out their equal.

Fucking have that, advantage City, let's do these fuckers in Manchester.

Yeah, that last De Bryune run could have gone different with one of those in the pitch. If you are going to settle for the counter in the last minutes, it is strange to not have fresh legs upfront.

Pep is a great coach but his aversion to substitutions is strange.
I wonder how often teams never use subs. Pep has to be the leader.

Got to hate the cheating gits, shite ref, but a great result for us, we were miles better than them in the first half and for some of the second, got to be happy to bring them back to our place at 1-1
I thought the ref was excellent. Only thing he missed was the Rudiger foul on Gundo.

Both teams were kicking fuck out of each other and he dealt with it really well and calmly. Didn’t take any shit from either team surrounding him and told both teams to fuck off when they did.

It was a proper game of football that. Physical as fuck. Thought we got away with a few bookings and so did they but I’d rather the ref keep his card in his pocket instead of running around booking everyone.

Honest opinion?
We weren’t clinical.
We couldn’t pass at times.
Bernardo lacked concentration.
Gundo was all over the place at times after the head injury.
Kev apart from the terrific goal, was very wayward.

But that’s a brilliant result from a very resilient team.
We can have no complaints. Yes the ref played his part but they got their tactics spot on. That alone says loads about where we are at. Madrid largely played a counter attacking game against us at their place.

Cmon City. This only counts if we finish the job at our place.
