Unfortunately, Haaland was absent tonight. We needed him in these type of matches
Eh? Eddie made a couple of decent saves but apart from that they had nothing. Their goal was sublime but that's all they had. Nerves got the better of the fans (on here anyway) but not the team.Fucking hell that was a tough watch at times.
We can and will play better at home.
Happy that we withstood huge amounts of pressure and did not concede a second.
Overall happy we didn’t cave in. Madrid are a bunch of pussies. Haaland very quiet. If we win the second leg he will need to do his thing.
GtfoI didnt think the ref was bad at all. He was fair. Missed some things but he's human.
PRetty good result but we didn´t play a good game at all imo.Now we need to keep our home streak alive and we are through
Couldn’t agree more. Playing in 30 degree heat playing away at Madrid. 1-1 is a great result and we saw the game out when we had to. Madrid will always get chances as they will do at ours but I’m sure they are more annoyed then we are that it finished 1-1. Home advantage for us will be different.anyone saying it’s poor needs to get out of entitled land. Playing Real Madrid at the bernabeu it’s not going to be an easy game where we smash them you are playing top class players who know exactly what they are doing. A great result- I think some people expect us to smash teams every week
Some people will just never be happyJim. I'm fuckin made up with that draw. This time of the season it's all about the result, NOT the performance. :)We were, at least, as good as them. In their own backyard. With no protection from the ref.
Resting for EvertonUnfortunately, Haaland was absent tonight. We needed him is these type of matches
Put you in charge nob headGreat result. Foden should have came on for Silva. Horrid game for him today. All is well though.
Pep did the same at Leipzig. Play for the draw on the road. It seems to be his motto when his teams go away for the first leg.
Well said, sir.Real Madrid executed their plan of kicking our players in to the ground (knowing they’ll be allowed to do it), trying to get one of ours sent off, and hit us on the break to perfection.
Rudiger getting away with regularly rugby tackling Haaland and yet another American football block on one of our players. Thankfully Ilkay seems to be ok this time.
We didn’t play badly, really, aside from a few poor decisions in possession, but we did look more passive than expected, at times seemingly hesitant to pass forward when it is on, often passing sideways or back.
I am not sure if that was meant to be a tactic to get their players to come out whilst we are in possession, but it didn’t really work. They weren’t biting. And it just allowed them to keep their shape and look to intercept for the counter, which is largely what lead to their goal.
I am not entirely sure John’s role in this game was helpful, either. Especially if he makes the runs toward their box and then just passes backwards when he gets close to a RM player.
Not sure what we could do to get Haaland more in to the game given they were doubling/tripling up on him whenever we get the ball near the box, which doesn’t even open up space for others, because neither Jack nor Bernardo, or Ilkay have really done much to attack the space created.
It very much looked like our plan was to play for a draw, and if we could nick the win, even better.
I am still confident we do the job at home and will be in the final, wherever it ends up being played.
All-in-all, I can’t really complain too much. And I think Eddie and Rodri deserve immense amounts of praise for their performances tonight.
If we went fully at them we would have been on the end of a heavy defeatWe looked knackered, tired passing every time we broke and guilty of trying to overplay again. But, take the draw and hope we dominate them at home, I worry how exhausted we are going to be after a hostile game at Goodison though, we need to try and get that won early and just conserve energy. It must have been in Peps mind not making subs?
This 100%If there is an upside it's that City have seen the best of them but they haven't seen the best of City.
