My biggest concern is I think he's going to start Lewis right back.

I know Pep can be stubborn, but the upturn in performance on Saturday with younger players who have legs, surely he can't possibly overlook that?
The last game Lewis was alright but mainly because of the pace of Khusanov. He had great cover. If Lewis is picked it will be Dias or Stones behind him and not enough pace to recover against Vinicius. For me, Khusanov has to play for that reason alone and I'd have him in over Lewis.

Exactly. They are the champions league royalty and treated like it by all concerned.

Well, having been a republican both by temperament and conviction for many decades, that perhaps explains part of my indifference.
But here's the thing. Over the last twenty years or so I've mostly watched CL matches, when I've seen them at all, in French pubs and bars. I'm not talking about games necessarily involving City. And it is both dismaying, and somehow, distasteful to me to see how younger people especially, say under 40, seem genuinely mesmerised by this competition. They appear to bow down to it, to kow-tow to it, knocking their heads against the floor. And very often, if you get talking to them, it will be people who literally do not watch one game of football during the year. They have no interest in football as such, no knowledge of the game and its history, its crucial place in working-class culture in so many European countries (although that's fading rapidly, of course). It's weird. They are drawn to it like moths to a flame. I see it as the equivalent, in the football world, of the Oscars in the entertainment world. Does the best film of the year necessarily win the Oscar? Being something of a film buff, over and over again I've seen outright masterpieces ignored by that circus. Does the best team in Europe win the Champions League every year? Well,we are told so by the UEFA Ministry of Truth. So it must be so…

Other half having a hissy fit now - he'd paid 99p for a weeks amazon prime trial so we could watch tonight, but now he's logged in it says you also need a discovery plus payment? Is he right? I know it's on TNT which we don't have, but he kept going on about it being on amazon. Anyone know?!
its on the discovery app on Amazon prime, both seprate subscriptions

Sometimes an insight of what is to come can do wonders for the soul…

For the first time in a very long while v Newcastle we looked like a team with a structure again, now Madrid are no Newcastle, however, Peps teams have always fundamentally had a style, it’s looked more like a Han van Meegeren effort this season, as opposed to a grandmaster with the brush; the effort tonight will take a provenance trick which we still have in the locker, it just needs to be flawless…

This is a shadow of the ‘Milkmaid’ masterpiece, but once in a while the experts can be duped (:

A long ball smash and grab, 3-1 with a brace for marmoush and Gvardiol Wowser late on…

Believe (:

Well, it's a strange thing. I wonder if anyone else is feeling like this…?
Of course, I want us to win this tonight. We play, I want us to win. Always. Full Members Cup, Auto Windscreens Shield — this. Whatever. On principle, I want us to win, and I could not imagine it any other way. We might do it, too. Stranger things have happened.
But I realise as the day wears on that I don't fundamentally care about this trophy very much. And especially since we won it in Istanbul. Having become weary of the jibes of “You'll never sing that” etc. both from press and snide opposition supporters, yes, I did want us to do it that year, very much. And also, for the lads, who want it very much, and for Pep. I'll always want it for them. And indeed for any other blue for whom it really is the ultimate.
But for myself? Not all that much, frankly. And since we've done it, I care even less. It's sort of “OK, been there, done that, got the t-shirt, now let's move on to proper football”. Which, for me, will always be the domestic game. Hands down.
I think it's partly the sense that this competition really is set up for one club to win it, with occasional incursions from Bayern, Liverpool, the two Milans, Juventus, maybe Barcelona from time to time. But essentially, that one club, for them to wallow in their showbiz razzamatazz, their “Merengues” and all the rest of it. And their puerile rolling-on-the-floor hissy fits when they don't win their Ballons d'Or. I see that even in Spain they're getting tired of them.
If we go out, it'll annoy me. For about twenty-four hours. Maybe not even that. It's a bit disloyal, I suppose.
Oh well, up the blues, eh?

(Didn't feel it was worth starting a thread for these musings, sorry).
Like you, I don't much care quite so much about the trophy either. We've been there and done that. Not many vam match the 2ay we did win it. None can better our treble.
That said, I have a feeling that after years of near misses and sickening quirky exits, this is the year our name is in the trophy.
The first of many jammy triumph incoming.
You heard it here first.

I hope.

I was thinking don’t concede early then I thought we conceded 2 late on so that theory is out the window come on blues we can beat them

Yeh I’m totally calm about tonight. And pretty much about the weekend as well. I’d be satisfied with a draw tonight and Sunday then take that momentum of good results from three games to go on a long run. We saw a glimpse of into the near future on Saturday and it was brilliant. I just don’t want any more collapses or thrashings. Sick of those now!!! It will be glorious when we get back to our best next season. Will make this season all worth while

Is anyone else dreading Pep's teamsheet tonight ?

I'm hoping that all 3 new lads start tonight, but I just can't see it, maybe just 1, and that he'll go back to some of the old guard.

I can picture him now, sat having a bowl of paella, twizzling it round and round with his fork, thinking on who to start, scratching his head in between mouthfuls

Thanks for the replies, and wow, £31, that's a no from me!!
It's a bit of a long shot but do either you or your partner have a phone contract with EE? If you do, and it's a Full Works plan, you can get TNT Sports as an Inclusive Extra.

At the very least two - Gonzo and Marmoush. I hope Khusanov is in too. But I suspect it will be Lewis, Dias, Stones, Guardiol.
