Real Madrid (H) | CL | Post Match Thread

We deserved better tonight. What do we have to do to score and to score from half-chances

The sending off changes the game and the referee and officials shocking ? Also, why did it take until halftime to show the VAR offside ? Semi-automated normally show up straight away ? Also, why the red card and not a yellow

We just need something to go our way this season ? If it can go against us, it does big time
Its deffo pen. If ref gives yellow and Madrid miss the pen then where's the punishment.

This tie was lost a week ago.

Tonight's game was ruined by that little French (presumably with a name like Clemente) **** and the VAR wankers that UEFA employ. They gave us absolutely nothing and penalised us for everything. Managed to kill the game, the crowd, the spectacle and the atmosphere with that one shitshow of a decision.

I'm not sure I want to fork out my hard earned to watch games decided by shitbag UEFA officials in the future.

Fuck Madrid! I hope Bayern twat them in the quarters. Never has there been a more dislikeable club and players! (Outside England)

Dias fell off a cliff and he's still crawling on the floor with broken legs..
We've got some great defenders here but there not being coached in a system to defend..
Let's face it we are absolutely shite at defending but we've got some great defenders..
Make of that what you will.
Just absolute shit coaching these days, both defending and attacking. And let's not even start on set pieces. Everything seems 2nd rate atm, recruitment wise. I mean Kolo Toure, a man sacked by Wigan on our coaching staff, laughable really. We look like we do absolutely nothing in training bar 2 yard passes inbetween bollards.

I'm not overreacting, it was terrible defending. Let's call it what it is. He's a good defender. But we knew they were going to go for it one last time to get an actual result. And he switched off too early.

It was ooor defending from him. Not
For the first time in the last few weeks.

I know its a random one and probably going to get some stick for it but one player who we really need at the moment and are missing badly is Phil Foden at his best. I'm actually quite annoyed at what the fuck is going on with him, £250K a week, 25 years old and completely disappeared off a cliff for us when we need him most.

Theres no way Reijnders is ahead in the pecking order of a fully focused and in form Foden. Where has that player gone and what is happening with him?
There is an article out that claims that City have offered him an extension but without a raise. I don't know if that is true, but if so, I think it would make perfect sense. Phil is a great player, but he's been generally quite poor for a season and a half now.

we dont need to sell or buy anyone at the back IMO. Ake and Stones move on and we have 4 great options. Dias probably going to be more of the playing in the dirty games away from home where we’ll be under heavy artillery - hes still good at that. Ait Nouri is first choice left back for me. Nunes looking tbh fine as a right back and crucially NEVER GETS FUCKING INJURED. which is nice

maybe we need another right back to replace Lewis but even if we dont sign anyone we still have centre backs who can play full back and Reilly to fill in as well.

get rid of all the dross - Stones, Ake, Kovacic, Phillips, Bernardo, Lewis, Savinho and give Foden a giant boot up the arse.
Ait Nouri hung Bernie out to dry with his back turned half arsed challenge that led to the pen.

I'm going to go against the grain.

I still like where the squad is going as a whole. Is it as strong as prime Pep City? No, but guess what, guys? The team may NEVER be that strong again. It's the best PL side of all time.

Add a couple of players in the summer, nail the hire of who succeeds Pep if he leaves (big ask, I know), and I think we bounce back quickly.

And fairly and squarely every time ?

Not so sure they deserve you admiration for their achievements personally.

Nothing to do with admiration

We simply can't get over the line against them and our players often shit the bed when we go up against them.

To say we are definitely better than them is a stretch. We used to be but we need to stop living in the past to 3 or 4 years ago.

I don't think there's an awful lot in it but we've done nothing to show we are better than them for a few years once it gets to the big moments.

Add into that the ex Liverpool set piece coach on board and we've become worse for it...

Really? As soon as it had happened, I screamed "You idiot, that's going to be a penalty. It wasn't even on goal." It's not the official's fault that Bernie had a brainfart. Nor is it Pep's. We had started brightly and there was a glimmer of hope, but then...
Clattenberg wanted Alt Nuri off as well for pulling back Donatello

Deep down everybody knew the tie was over after that shambolic first leg team selection and performance. Obviously once we went down to ten men and 4-0 on aggregate there was no doubt.
These two games against Madrid reminds me of our early forays in the champions league. Plenty of effort, some controversial decisions that always seemed to go against us and a realisation we're just not good enough yet.
The odd signs are there in certain games but i have no idea if our recent additions will.progress enough to take us to the top level again. Some look promising and some look miles off it. For me we need three world class players to build around but where they are i have no idea. On their day Foden and Haaland are but both look miles off that atm. Also those players will already be at a top club and would be very hard and expensive to acquire.
If we win the Caribou cup on Sunday I'd be happy for this season but deep down i just don't think we have it in us to do so.
Ahh well.
Yep, I’d take a domestic cup win this season for sure, alongside a Top 2 finish, 100%.
