Foden had poor games vs. PSG and Brugge, too.

Scored 4 goals vs Ipswich and Brentford, which was great to see. He still isn't consistent though. When he doesn't score he contributes little. Much more is expected from him in terms of overall influence on our game. Let's hope he has a great game vs Real.
I think it’s fair to say he hasn’t been the same Foden we’ve seen in recent years (I think long Euros campaign/lack of rest has played its part in that).

I think your assessment is fair. I just wouldn’t quite equate it to him ‘being in poor form’ as some have described.

I honestly think he’s one of the first names on the team sheet on Tuesday and would be incredibly shocked if he’s dropped.

Players who are guaranteed to start if fit: Ederson, Dias, Stones, Gvardiol, Akanji, Kova, Bernie and Haaland. I know Akanji has been overplayed but his experience matters.

For the other 3 positions you have Foden, KDB, Marmoush, Savinho and Nico G. I'd play Savinho, Marmoush and Nico. Savinho and Marmoush are fast and can go past players, which is vital against Madrid's weakened defence.

Alternatively, Pep might start KDB and Foden, tasking them with high pressing and a lot of running, and then bring on Savinho and Marmoush against tired legs (Madrid played a derby last night).

I don't think Foden and Kdb should start together, it's either one or the other and I'd go for Kev.

Savinho is our most potent attacker currently so I'd play him In his best position which is RW.

I'd go with Akanji, Stones, Dias and Ake back four, with Bernardo and Nico in front of them.

He has form for, er, strange posts.

Suggesting that Savinho might be a better option than Foden in this game isn't strange. The poster might be wrong, but some think that Savinho can do more damage against Real's defenders right now. To be sure, Foden is more of a goal threat, but Savinho is more likely to create chances, including for Haaland.

Hmm. We'll have to agree to disagree.

I know Nunez will play right back but it just seems madness to me. Now Dias is (somewhat) back, we should be going back to Akanji at RB. It will probably end up being Kova and Bernardo in a double pivot, we just don't have loads of options there.

Madrid will keep the ball
Better than us. So I don’t see the problem. We need to be compact and lightning quick on the counter. They also play a high line so space over the top for legs to run into. We won’t/don’t have the players to dominate them in possession we’re to sloppy nowadays. They have fantastic speed up front and will destroy our high lines
Your only hope with that, is if everyone is at 2023 levels, and we surprise them. With the current malaise - our best chance is containment and trying some long punts to Marmoush and Haaland. 1st leg at least.

Seriously? I'd like to see Kev's face when he's told that.

I don't think that Tuesday's legs will belong to the same players that were in last night's back four...

Vinicius against Nunes, hmmmmmmm

Foden on current form does not deserve to play ahead of Savio , we have a good chance against their weakned defense if go for speed upfront
Foden has as many goal involvements in the last month as Savio has in his last 6 months. He is most likely, and rightly so, one of the first names on the team sheet.

Not sure what to expect here. I've got a positive feeling but no idea why because we played a good team last weekend and got turned over 5-1 haha

Wouldn't surprise me if we beat them and it wouldn't surprise me if we got slaughtered and it was a cricket score. That's where we are right now.

But im an optimist. 3-1 City.
5-1 flattered Arsenal & had we managed to keep the scores level for longer than 30 seconds it could have been a completely different story but giving stupid goals away has been one of our problems all season.

I thought we missed Eddy's passing last week & although Stefan has improved immensely in that department he doesn't have the ability to disguise long & short passes that Eddy has.

Tin hat time here but I haven't got a problem with Nunes playing RB as long as he can stop diving in with a lazy tackle, against PSG he was working well with Akanji until said lazy tackle which led to the chaos of PSGs 1st goal.

I worry if Khusanov plays at RB, RM with their shitty antics will target his aggressive nature & try to get him sent off

If Nico is injured, I think the most likely XI will be:
Ederson
Akanji-Stones-Dias-Gvardiol
KDB-Kovacic-Bernardo
Foden-Haaland-Marmoush

Anything else would be a surprise to me. If Pep thinks Khusanov/Reis needed experience next to them to handle Leyton Orient he probably thinks its to soon to throw Khusanov in against Vinicious. He will want attacking players that delivers goals, and Savio has scored 2 goals in 30 games.

Sounds ludicrous to put so much importance on a newly signed player but if Nico Gonzalez is not fit, this tie is already over.

No DM in a knock-out UCL tie? Again?
We know what happens.

If Werner, Havertz and Mount could make a backline of Walker, Dias, Stones and Zinchenko look average imagine what Vini, Mbappe and Rodrygo will do to our current defense.
The same Real Madrid who with all those galacticos only finished in the play-offs of the UCL, got beat off Espanyol who are 17th in La Liga & needed a 93rd minute penalty to beat 16th place Leganes.

Although it won't be easy, they aren't the same team that we've lost cruelly too over the last couple of seasons & hopefully the luck that has alluded us over those seasons will go our way.

No disrespect to Nunes, but I'm hoping Akanji is given the rb slot with Stones and Dias as the cb pairing. Whoever plays rb has a difficult job coming up against Viniscus and whilst Akanji is not in the best form I think he would be a better option than Nunes.

I’d be looking to do something similar to Chelsea at home

If Nico is fit all the better

Ederson

Nunes Stones Dias Gvardiol

Kovacic Nico Bernardo

Foden Haaland Marmoush

I think the home leg is a good chance to try and finish the tie, I don’t think Madrid have beaten us at the Etihad before ?

The away leg will be a tough match with our confidence shot on the road , if we can get a two goal lead we will have a chance

Nunes has become the new goto boo boy because he made a poor pass in the derby that is almost identical to Aké at Anfield last season & almost every defender under Pep has made that mistake at some point. Akanji looks mentally & physically fatigued & although he has the ability to one game look world class & another to look absolutely awful,

I'm not sure there's much difference & Nunes probably offers more in attack, especially if Phil or Berny play on the right
