Real Madrid post match post mortem

mahrez big miss, could do with someone on the right like that lad at chelsea, whats he called, err palmer, rings a bell that .|
Palmer has been brilliant this season and wouldnt have got the same game time if he had stayed , but i will reserve judgment until has has put a couple of seasons together , a lot of players have had one good season and then tailed off, but i rarely enjoy ex-players ripping it up at other clubs but Palmer really is a superb player this season and has to got to the euro's before a clown like Rashford.

Thought we did everything. Great performance . It wasn't to be. Best team by miles lost. Best penalty takers by miles won. We move on.

We should play a pair of real wingers on either side of the pitch and pick two midfielders in the middle!!! Phil is not a winger! Start him in the middle or just don't play him!

You cannot win this kind of match with only ONE winger operating on the pitch. TOO easy to defend. Either place two wingers each sides or same side like Real Madrid did today.
Madrid didn’t win with 2 wingers either

Can't expect to win a game by sleep walking.

We had our chances
We played like shit,
We shot penalties like shit,
We deserve to be out!

We have no one to blame but OURSELVES! Well done Real Madrid.

Doku was the lone standout and made things happen!
We played like shit ????????????????????????????????????????????????

Could, should have won but a lot of chickens from the season came home to roost last night.
  • Too many players not at their best - KDB, Haaland and Bernardo, and even Rodri, well below their standards of last season.
  • Poor execution when in good positions. In the first half KDB got the ball to the byline in what you could say is our signature move, but put the ball too close to the keeper. Bernardo barely delivered a decent ball and there was one spell of a few minutes where he under-hit a ball across goal, then massively over-hit one a couple of minutes later. KDB's shot on 80 minutes, would would probably have sealed the tie.
  • Insipid attacking football with too little intensity or imagination. Trying to thread delicate little passes through a wall of 5 RM players instead of having a shot. Some really poor decision making last night. Just have a shot occasionally. We dis show intensity in the second half of the 90 and first half of ET but were let doen by our decisions and actions around the RM area.
  • Something I've noticed for a while but we were talking about last night was how often we're in a 50/50, or even 60/40 situation with a loose ball and fail to come away with it. There's a worrying lack of commitment when looking to win he ball. Doku, Kovacic, Foden and Haaland (and others) were all guilty of that quite badly at some point. We were seeing a lot of second ball but often giving it away far too easily.
  • Our goals to chances ratio. At least we got a good number of shots on target last night but most were far too easily dealt with by the keeper.
In the lead up to the game and for most of the 90 minutes, I just didn't feel the excitement that I should have for a CL QF against Real Madrid. We are nowhere near the levels of last season, let alone the Centurions or Fourmidable seasons.

This is what the champions league is

We were better, we should've won, but hey ho, we didn't.

Look, this team has been undercooked all season. Other than Phil, pretty much everyone this season has been worse then last year (Rodri has shown similar levels). The mental effort of winning the treble clearly played a part

The team are exhausted, and yet we still were unlucky not to go itno a semi-final and are currently on track for a 4th league title in a row, maybe the FA Cup as well

It's not great, and is disappointing, but these games happen

Now let's focus fully on the League and the Cup

This season looking at the top teams we have played. In the champions league only Real Madrid really. How many wins?

In the league we have played Arsenal twice, Liverpool twice, Spurs once. How many wins? We played Villa away and lost but thankfully Emery turned out a reserve team at ours and we beat them. That's the top 5 teams.

I would say 1 win in 9 games shows our inability to see off good teams is a regular occurrence

That's fair, the facts don't lie.

Our overall play is still good because we are so well coached. We are just lacking that extra bit of magic and cutting edge we had last season.

We need some real quality bringing into the squad to freshen things up and give other players a lift too. We have replaced some real quality with just decent players. Other teams will be strengthening, so I think we need some very good signings this summer, whether we win the league and FA Cup or not.

Nobody is imagining anything. Unless I've forgotten us beating top teams. In the league you can get away with not beating the top teams as long as they drop points which is what has been happening. In the CL however you are never going to win it with an inability of getting over the line and winning games.
Every top team there's ever been has had poor seasons after stellar seasons. It's normal - the players aren't robots. No Kev for six months, no Erling for two months, John in and out, not much of a pre-season because of last season's success and flying around the world before Christmas to win a trophy that Pep and many of us value. Madrid have had way more rest time than us but you wouldn't have thought so watching the games. This type of season happens, but in saying that, no other team on the planet forces Madrid to park the bus home and away. I think you're nit-picking - just my opinion.
