Real Madrid post match thread

We should've tried harder for a right back when Walker went, it borders on stupidity not to have a back up in that position. We could have sacrificed the Gonzalez signing for a full back as that was more a priority in my eyes
A midfielder has always been a Priority, our midfield is non existent and ease to by-pass as we have seen time and time again. We could have managed with 4CBs at the back, unfortunately 2 of them are sick-notes.

Mrs SuttonColdfieldBlue turns 40 tomorrow and we were hoping for a nice, pleasant, chilled-out enjoyable evening. Thanks a bunch City - I’ve spent most of the last hour stomping around the house in a foul mood and nearly broken another remote control when that last goal went in.

Entirely predictable though. And yet it’s the hope that kills you.

Shame too, because in large parts we played some good stuff, better than a lot of the dross we’ve played this season. We were almost looking like our old selves at some points. But there were WAY too many complete hospital passes in our own third tonight - you just can’t do that, never mind against them.

Gutted when Ake went off - he looks the most solid out of any of our defenders.

I feel a bit for Rico, he put in one or two decent challenges but he is patently not up to this level of football. Anyone is going to have a hard night against Vinicius and Mbappe (who were clearly targeting him down that wing) and he does his best, but his best just isn’t what’s required.

Not quite up there with the level of depression felt after the United and Feyenoord games, but this is all getting a bit too 1990s “typical City” for me now…

I thought we gave it our all tonight but we can’t make mistakes like that at this level. I’m disappointed for the players as they put a right shift in.

I do agree with some of the points about recent transfers , but in only hope they are players with a bright future (even though we need them now).

'como gatitas cerca del agua'...as a Spanish journo said after the game, basically, we are like little kittens near the water...weak as piss, scared...of course our team is shot, Kev was shot after 15 mins! but did try which is rare this year..all that money he earns woe! Lewis, his frightened expression when he came on said it all. Never seen a professional look so out of place..tried hard though. Kovavcic, his second touch is a tackle lately, he's getting worse...Surprised there was only 1 in i..i hope they show a bit of mercy next week. They are a good 5 - 6 goals better than us. Mind this a team that 4 in v Spurs at home....cliff drop
Hasn't helped with the injuries our poor form has coincided with them a couple of months back. We are slowly getting our mojo back. It has been a lot better than the Arsenal defeat.

Im honestly susprised kevin started the game, becouse beside the first gold agains real, i honestly didnt see him much.

We are still in it, I saw some improvement from us and enough to suggest we can get something at theirs.

Call me a dreamer if you will but we are Manchester City and we do what we want.

Keep the faith chaps.
They are going in dry in the second leg. We will lose by 4 or 5. As long as Rico Lewis plays everything will be hunky dory.

Great. Got it. He didn't have to come off. Thank you for confirming what I said. Seriously. Read what I wrote.

Everyone was surprised? Wow. Did a poll did ya?
So you had Ake in your starting line up did you?
If you did you wouldn't have had him on the pitch at the end of the game. That is Nathan Ake sadly, great player but rarely fit.

If Pep has taken him off it's for a reason, I trust Pep's judgement over yours or Paramount.

The 2 late goals we conceded were down to Keeper, DM and full back errors, not the position Ake or his replacement were occupying!

Re watch the game and watch all 3 of Madrids goals. Then come back and tell us the player who should be highlighted at fault for most of their goals.
I watched the game exactly and some told here we played so well, mate, if they took their chances, because of big mistakes made, we would have lost 2:6/7. First goal was Lewis for you? Second Ederson, third first Kovacic, put that fucking ball out of the stadium. It was also not about Gündogan, not involved in a single goal for them, and yes, I know he is shit this season.

Ever considered that he probably didn't want to bring either Lewis or Kushanov on tonight ? I'm sure he wanted to keep Akanji on to finish the game but lo and behold injuries struck again.
We lost the derby because Nunes had a game to forget.
We've been shit against Liverpool since the dawn of time whether it's been Pep, Pellegrini or Mancini. For some reason, they've got our number except for a 5-0 at home and a 4-1 at their place.
The UCL loss to Chelsea was certainly a major cock up on Pep's part.
Makes you wonder why the club won't buy a fucking full back then. We were desperate to buy 1 in January and once again the club failed to address it.

to be fair going out vs Real is a bit better than losing to a younger, largely inexperienced at CL later stages Leverkusen in next round as they are fucking rip us apart with their speed and hunger and tactics by Xabi Alonso...

only problem we are not even at later stages, last year we didnt make last 16 in CL was in 12-13 Mancini last season we got stuck in the group of Dortmund, Real, Ajax, City group (4th place with 3 points of 6 games lol with 3 draws and 3 losses). somewhat similar we had an awful transfer window in summer of 2012, when Mancini asked for De Rossi, RVP etc and got Nastasic, Sinclair, Rodwell etc.
Txiki B. did it again thank you.

Positionally, he seems out of his depth against most teams. He’s never a right back in a million years.
I genuinely don't know what position he could play in, I couldn't tell you what type of player he is...

Unfortunately he's out of his depth, Seems like a really good hard working lad, He's not enough and I think he'll be moved on.

Here's Pep....

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola: "Today was tight and in certain times we had chances.

"Many games at the end we give away. In that level it is so difficult. It is not the first time, it happens many times.

"There are mistakes in similar areas. It is difficult to manage but yeah, it happens many times.

"Players take decisions in the moment, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. We arrived in the last minute with the result but we could not keep it.

"It belongs to all of us, not just the players. I have not a problem to accept that it doesn't work like it worked in the past. It is all of us.

"They want it, how they run and how they do it but the truth is that we are not stable enough in the moments. At the end, today is what it is and after tomorrow we have to continue to learn.

"There are many, many good things that we played. The result is what it is. Of course we did many good things, things can improve and always give credit for the opponent and the quality they have."

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola, speaking to Amazon Prime: "Many times it happen this season. I know the the quality of Real Madrid. We took the game in the second half and tried to attack too quick. It happens because they [Real Madrid] are an exceptional team.

"It happens many times this season. Bad decisions, that's all. I take it. It's not about you and me, it's everyone. Yeah, that is all season [injuries]. But we know it."

On if Jack Grealish and Manuel Akanji will be fit for the second leg: "I don't know."

On the second leg: "Of course now it's tough. We have to recover. I think now about Newcastle and then go to the Bernabeu."

Exactly. There’s probably only five, maybe six first teamers that are of the level we once were:

Gvardiol
Dias
Rodri
Foden
Silvinho
Haaland

We still have a lot of positions to fill and not sure many of the last signings of the previous 2/3 windows will really cut it
A lot of those players over the 2/3 windows will be more than adequate for the squad. However, players need to be moved on in the summer and replaced with absolute top notch at RB, GK, CM and AMF as a minimum.

I don't think Gonzalez was fully fit.
I did say to my daughter - "we're replacing one pensioner for another" just how it felt
Maybe not, but he shouldn’t have been on the bench if that was the case.

Like you say, it’s just a like for like change. You’re not going to get any different from one or the other.

Why not McAtee if you can’t use González? The Gundo change was madness.
