Real Madrid to listen to offers for Sergio Canales

We were apparently close to signing him before Madrid stepped in....

Given the situation at RM right now I really can't see that they will be making far-reaching decisions on their squad at the moment.

Too many ifs and buts.

Good player though :)

Even avid watchers of Spanish football will be hard pressed to make a decent assessment as to the future potential of Canales.

On-field playing time has been disappointingly thin. As a result it would be hard to make a case for him.

Mourinho must not think that he is good enough to warrant a starting place at all save for the odd Copa del Ray fixture and his appearances as a substitute in La Liga did little to evidence whether or not he is developing as a player.

The fact that Higuain's season-long injury prompted Real to acquire Adebayor on a loan basis to be the partner for Benzema must indicate the doubts that the club has as to his likely effectiveness at the Bernabeu.

TBH I think that it's most likely that he might be loaned to a top 8 Spanish side in the Summer to enable the club to see him making regular starts ar say somewhere like Villarreal, Espanyol or Valencia.

I remember him from before he moved to Madrid, looks really talented.

You could say the fact Mourinho is the manager has halted his progress slightly, he has his system and he sticks to it.

Ronaldo, Kaka, Ozil, De Maria etc are all established playmakers and Jose can only accomodate so many.

I'd love him here, extra craft in our squad would be most welcome and would ease the burden on Silva and Johnson.

Maybe we can agree some sort of package if Ade moves there permanently.

Mourinho not the greatest fan of using young players. He is on record as saying he prefers players at the tail end of their careers.Canales looks a very good player who would be worth having.

Interesting comments.

But what exactly are his strengths? I'm sorry to say I'm a little ignorant about this player.

This is true. He likes young players too. As we have seen with players like Ozil, Di Maria, Khedira.

But his favourite players are like: John Terry, Frank Lampard, Xabi Alonso, Steven Gerrard, Ricardo Carvalho...those kind of players in the end of their 20s or in early 30s.

He is projected as a midfielder, not a striker. So the Injury of Higuain has no relevance to his prospects. He is unable to make the 1st team because seating ahead of him are Kaka (ex world best) and Ozil (One of the best AM's in the game today). It is hard to crack and 11 that only uses one Attacking mid, if you have those 2 in the squad.

He only cost Real 4.5 million Euros + future incentives so I don't think we'd have to pay crazy money for him. In fact, I reckon we could get him + cash for Adebayor.
