Rebuild

Centenary copa america this year

Damn! I don't usually criticise players for playing for their country but if Zaba wants to continue playing at the top he needs to retire from international football. The last two summers have exhausted him and surely contributed to those early season injuries.

The big plus for me about Pep arriving is that, no matter who we bring in, we don't get beaten due to the greater work rate of the opposition. Time and again this season we've played teams that worked much harder off the ball than we do. We worked hard pressing away to Kiev, away to Sevilla and for the first 30 mins in the League Cup Final. Can't think of many other matches where worked that hard.

The trouble is that Guardiola and his fitness staff will have hardly any time to work with the squad before the season begins. Many of the players will return late from the Euros or Copa America and will not be any state to undertake intensive conditioning. Most of the big name new signings will be in August. It will take him a few months to get the team playing as he wants.

Players that run and run and run and that can pass accurately and quickly when under pressure. We need to and more more and more technical ability. We need full backs who can truly do the job of a wing back.

My point is more that all this was said when Pellers turned up. Pressing, working harder, training harder (I still remember Vinny tweeting he had never worked harder in pre season), will only use 1 striker so Dzeko was out etc. Just as confident predictions about would happen under Pellers never quite materialised (well except for the predictions over our defensive deterioration) I am sceptical that we have any real idea as to how Pep will approach reshaping the team and the way we play.

All we seem to be doing is projecting our individual prejudices about players and saying they will be out, squad will be gutted and fortunes spent etc. I also feel we are taking our disappointments over the players this season into our analysis just as did when we went from Mancini to Pellers which makes us subjective rather than objective.

Players are getting older.

Pep may decide he wants younger ones for all we know, irrespective of the quality of the current ones.

I recon he'll just replace a few & use some of the academy players to supplement the squad. You would imagine that players such as Kolarov, who can only kick with one foot, would be surplus & Bony doesn't seem like a Pep kind of player.

The rest may be playing for their futures right now. Yaya actually looked like he gave a shit last night & may force his way in if he keeps it up.

Far too sensible ( :) ) , i think we all know that that Pep's intentions are not public knowledge, nor will be, but it keeps the forum ticking over.

I think he started with a higher energy then realised a team built around Toure, Silva, Nasri in midfield.and most of our defence wasn't built for it. Pep will rebuild the midfield and defence to play exactly how he wants and is probably coming in at a better time in our team cycle to change it.

Well if a team with higher energy was Pellers goal why has he not built it? He's had three years. If a Nasri doesn't want to do the job then sell him and buy someone who does. One season aside we have not being shy of spending money and if Pep was the ultimate goal then why didn't we spend these three years building the team in Pep's supposed image? Txiki has been here 4 years so if we are scrapping what we have and starting again isn't that a black mark on his ability to plan and construct a team over those years?

I think it did start last summer with KDB and Sterling and to a lesser extent Delph and we are are led to believe an attempt to get Pogba. I think they were all bought with Peps team in mind. The only position we don't seem to have readied the squad in some way is defence especially full backs.
