Recommend a Car

Me when I lived in the UK. I used to do 30-40 miles a day, all of which could be done on a single electric charge and then when we had the occasional longer journey, I could switch it to petrol and not have to think about recharging.

At one stage I had over 800 miles to the gallon as we so rarely used the petrol but it was there as a fallback if I ever needed it (or forgot to charge the car). It helped that we could charge at home.

It worked perfectly for us.
Did you live in the UK when it cost £200 a month just to keep your house warm before you think about the electric and having the lights on even?

I bought a pre registered V70 D5 in 2003, sold it five years later with 150k on the clock
Messing about at Christmas putting my old registrations in a DVLA MOT search, and it's still running

I think you've got two types of drivers on here - some who can afford brand new (or very nearly new) - you can go whichever way you please and can afford - manufacturers warranty takes all the stress out of the decision - but if you are in a position that you can only afford cars 5 years or older (basically out of warranty unless its a Kia) then you really have to think about reliability, servicing costs, potential costs of expensive items that fail - so you have to think a bit more carefully and (for me) you also need to avoid hybrid like the plague, they are far too complicated and have too many very expensive parts potentially breaking and needing replacing - so simple ICE vehicles are probably the way, EV's are even simpler but the jury is out on them at the mo because there are just not enough Pure EV's out there of that age and older to judge.

They have a reutation for extremely strong engines, reliability is very important to me but I'm getting mixed messages from my searches.
