Ref for Saturday- West Ham (H)

Utterly spineless performance

The West Ham players figured out after 5 minutes he was a coward and a weakling and they filled their boots

Obviously we'll never know if the amount of time wasting cost us a point but we do know that it was (a blatant and (b) went unpunished. If the officials bother to watch the match back in full they'll see how ridiculous they appear. West Ham players took the piss, fair play to them, they tried it on and were allowed to get away with it, if the board had gone up with 14 on it it would have been a fairer reflection than the 4 that was shown. I've no complaints about the result, that's down primairily to poor finishing, but ffs try and apply the rules occasionally because it's bloody annoying for fans.

He was absolute gash today.

He could have stamped out the time-wasting by warning Adrian the first time and booking him on the second occasion he did it.

But no, by letting it go, he looked weak and easy to manipulate, which he turned out to be.

And as for only four minutes of time added on at the end of the match, words fail me.
This is exactly why you saw so many of their players going down in the box for no bastard reason other than to feign injury and waste time. It made the ref look pathetic. They clocked the twat. You can't even blame them. But the four minutes injury time was an absolute piss-take.

What was particularly odious was how obvious their keeper was. He easily could have been warned for time-wasting quite early in the first half. And the fact that he wasn't more or less set the tone.

And the four minutes added on? Just incomprehensible.

Not the cause of this result, obviously, but for the good of the sport this idiot should never be given charge of a PL match ever again. Clearly not up to the task.

And we were asking what Hart was doing to let that first goal in but there's a different thread for all that mate - this thread is for moaning about the referee who came across as a right bent twat.

No mate, its a thread about the ref, but one which most people are using to moan about him. I know there are other threads, but my point was about the ref, even though I was referring to player mistakes - what I was trying to say was his mistakes would have been irrelevant if they had done their jobs - just adding some perspective, even though I am as bothered by his awful performance as the rest of us.

Twice the West Ham players fell with cramps, each took a good 2-3 minutes to leave the pitch. it didn't help to hide the ruse when as soon as their lumbering limping legs touched the outside of the pitch the miracle of healing gave a sudden sprint of life. It was all too clear for those sat around the technical area, but the root of it all has to be the ref for failing to impose his authority on the match. Not to put blame for the loss because we could have done better with Aguero's luck and Bony's contribution, but even if we had won it today if the time wasting was as it was we would still be talking about it. It just took away enjoyment of watching the game.

Do any of the stats pages show ball in play time? I know Sky used to show this after live games.
I suspect that match would have been at the lower end. Obviously this might not all be to do with time wasting but there was certainly a lot of it. Four minutes didn't surprise me as it's rarely more but I felt six or seven would have been more appropriate.
Perhaps Sky had an advert break scheduled.

With hotels, tickets, parking and food this weekend has cost me £400. I expect to see as much football as possible for that kind of money. The Ref has robbed me. I would love to see any stats of actual ball in play time compared to average games. The guy was not just ignoring the time wasting but collaborating with it.

He put in the sort of performance where if it were on a Sunday league pitch your psycho number 9 would be crowded round his Ford Fiesta after the game trying to throttle him.

@Pam I also messages to clarify the rules

Alos adding my deep concern about the behaviour of the Baboon

This must be a retrospective ban, the behaviour of Costa is bringing the game into disrepute.
He is meant to be a role model and kids will be thinking the actions of this baboon are acceptable.

The FA must clamp down on his cheating, his terrible attitude and address his lack of respect for fellow pros and officials by applying a lengthy retrospective ban!

He cant have played 4 mins of injury time.... Since each side made their 3 subs, and the time per sub is generally seen as 30 seconds, then 3 mins out of the 4 mins were attributed to the subs. So only 1 minute was played on due to the two or three times their players collapsed onto the ground needing the medical team to come on, as well as all their time wasting due to the keeper and in set-pieces. To add insult to injury, he only added circa 11 seconds from the 4 mins displayed despite the ball being out of play for at least 1 min.

And this is not taking into account the fact we had at least 1 penalty claim denied (we had in reality 3 shouts...) as well as the linesman needing a pair oof specs as the ball twice hadn't crossed the line when it did.

I think the refs need to be called out on this and try to stop bullcrap from occurring again. I admire Pellegrinis honest and well mannered approach, though some tackles go criminally unpunished.

I normally just take the rough with the smooth regarding refs, but yesterday was the worst refereeing performance from a Prem Ref that I have ever witnessed. It's a shame they are not made publicly accountable for their games.

What amazed me at the end of the game was him motioning the West Ham goalkeeper from the half way with circular arm movements to get a move on with his goal kick. Their keeper just ignored him and did what he had been doing all game, still not on a yellow card.

Very inexperienced ref who failed to control the game properly.

Every little bit of physical contact affecting a West Ham player was a foul yet similar incidents involving us were waved on. Also at one point he played advantage for a foul on one of our players which was back in our half with most of the West Ham players behind the ball so there was no advantage at all. Also allowed the injured West Ham players to walk all the way across the pitch instead of going off via the goal-line which was far nearer.
