Ref Watch

It does need a complete overhaul however nothing will be done in improving matters as it appears certain clubs still have a say on how the game is run from top to bottom.

After months and months of debating fairly and rationally , constantly stating the pros AND cons , pointing out where it needs massive improvement and ways to improve VAR but standing by that I would rather VAR in place in the game than without it

It was clear the only opinion your allowed on here is ‘It’s all corrupt , football is finished ‘

So I bowed out this thread much to delight of many posters including yourself - and it’s amusing you all tag me whenever there’s controversy, so basically hounded out for debating fairly yet you lot want my opinions when it suits

For what it’s worth - there’s no defending the decisions yesterday against Brighton, utter shambles

I'll stick my head above the parapet here and say I honestly think how you've been treated on here at times is a really bad look for this forum.

I get that you support another team and others often don't agree with your perspective but I've never seen you do anything other than present your side without getting personal. That's despite the fact that some posters have been very personal in highlighting and insulting you in particular time and time again. It's gotten to the point now where any time a referee gets something wrong people are tagging you as if you're somehow defending them or in some way responsible for shit refereeing despite having not said anything at all. It's fucking absurd and pathetic as fuck to be honest.

I've been guilty of looking past it on occasions if I disagreed with your opinion, but it's obvious some don't know how to attack the argument rather than the person.

I think it's time for the whole Referee situation in the PL to be overhauled. We have the richest football league in the world and it's reffed by a bunch of incompetants headed up by another completely out of his depth. The PL need to revisit the whole set up. Make the process more open like rugby, but more importantly, the PL should recruit the best refs from wherever, all over the world. Looking at the last 2 WCs it's clear that British refs arnt good enough with hardly any chosen. So why should we have to put up with them in our league. Get the best and fire the likes of Atwell who clearly isn't up to the job.

Not enough Premier League referees and not enough quality either. Need more competition among them to get to better levels. World Cup showed ours are miles of world class.

Wasn't Tony from Timperley the ref at the last world cup final?

If the first Brighton "goal" was handball, how come Rodri's "handball" at Everton last season wasn't handball?
That's easy. Any handball leading directly to a goal is disallowed. Rodri's had to be either deliberate or the hand/arm had to be in an unnatural position.

because in Rodri's case the ball hit his arm above the t-shirt line, which was the rule at the time, the rule was then changed to shoulder. Brighton's two goals were correctly ruled out, no arguments there, but they should have had at least one penalty and most likely another one as well. This is the controversial thing about the game as the first one was a nailed on penalty that VAR should be giving in it's sleep.

Not conclusive wellbecks shot hit McAlister's arm. Looked hip to me and motd lads. Do you think it was clear and obvious error.

The only British representative from the last two WCs.
That's incorrect.
Tony from Timperley and Michael Oliver were both refs in Qatar.
In fact it's quite impressive when UEFA had just 8 refs from 6 countries and 2 were from England.
No German refs at all.

And from 14 linesman, 4 were English.
