Ref Watch

I’ll be honest the Haaland - Alisson one i thought looked more of a reason to disallow the goal than the Haaland- Fabinho tussle/shirt tug ..
When slowed down though Alisson never had control of the ball, so that was rightly ignored, though I'm sure that was the original reason for the VAR review.
But how far back do you scrutinise the game?
As far as you can to disallow a City goal ?

Have we had an apology yet for Rodri's goal in midweek being cancelled?
It seems to me VAR as been implemented for "selective purposes" as Dermot would say.
If your team is better than the rest we will try and reign you in

My frustration is VAR was always sold to fans on the basis of it not ‘re-refereeing’ games in the sense of if a ref sees something but decides it’s X, Y and Z then it is unless it’s glaringly obvious, alongside the obvious penalties, foul play and handballs (which is fine)

Fast forward to now, any tackle above half hearted is being relooked at to ensure the colour of the card is correct, as we’ve all seen today it’s now being used to review buildup play prior to a goal to check for anything sinister and well generally just about ‘re-refereeing’ the game.

I could be wrong but watching that today, Taylor has seen the battle between two big lads in Haaland and Fabinho and in line with the rest of his stance today has deemed it 50/50 bit of back to back, shoulder to shoulder and pulling decided it’s okay to play on (again on the basis of his stance for the game) and a period of time later we score.
In my eyes there is therefore no reason for anybody at VAR to be getting involved and influencing a referee especially in an environment like that and I’ve said it before once they are ‘asked to check the monitor’ the decision is pretty much made, Taylor could have looked at that today and said nope I can see it but in line with a physical game it’s not a glaring error but the screen handily placed right in the middle of the Anfield residents along with the Liverpool squad screaming in his face clearly got to him.

Eventually referees need to take a stance and go against said screens otherwise VAR really will just take over and make referees on the pitch pretty much pointless.

Exactly this, football will kill itself with this, the whole point of football is scoring more goals than the other team, why bring something in that seems designed to stop goals .

All game Taylor let things go, some much worse than that, neville and tyler kept saying how "great" it was, and I agreed, and then we score, and yes there is a shirt tug in the build up, so it had to be "no goal" after a review.

It's nonsense really.
A small point, but VAR allowed 47 disallowed goals to stand last season and disallowed 43 that were given on field.

According to MOTD, If the referee had thought it wasn't a foul by Haaland on Fabinho, the goal would have been disallowed for Haaland on Ederson anyway. They'd been told that by PGMOL
PiGMOL probably had another half dozen reasons lined up too.
