Dean's performance yesterday was a classic example of how an experienced referee can influence any match without having to give a major controversial decision that would be picked over and shown to be wrong. He couldn't guarantee Huddersfield the result and, had we not been on the beach, we'd have probably found a way through but what he did do was give them the best chance he could. Their objective was to stop us building any rhythm and he allowed them to do that through a series of soft fouls going their way but none ours, blatant time wasting and by carefully positioning himself to act as the 'extra man' to stop and/or delay passing movements. It was clear from the outset that he'd arrived with a game plan and it wasn't to help City celebrate in style.
