Referees' Performances | 2025/26

VAR should be improving refereeing standards and decisions. The very fact that they have a screen to re-watch incidents immediately and then apply the correct rule dictates this.
Some of the ones we've seen this season are baffling.

MOTD on sunday night for example. United get a goal were Sesko's hand touches the ball over the line when any type of a handball in the build up to a goal has seen that goal disallowed for years now.
Bournemouth get a farce of a penalty.

Two easy decisions that should be overturned by VAR

Its the dickheads using it that are the problem
The dickheads, or referees' colleagues, appear not to want to overturn an onfield decision. They might be influenced by the idea that when the current onfield ref is in the VAR shed and they are on the field, a week after overturning the onfield decision . . . . . . . . . .

It all boils down to the most monumental cock-ups within any major sport, week after week. Howie cannot come out and say 'We will learn from this!" 'cos they fuckin' well don't. They forget what decision was given last time out and come up with another.

It was definitely a fucking red.. He deliberately missed the chance to get the ball and just took out Doku.. It's not the 1970's anymore.. Tackles like that are reds.. Unless it's against our players
If that had been given and Gabriel had been sent off for his headbutt then the league could have been very different. We would have two more points and Arsenal would have been disrupted at the back.

I'm still furious over the Henderson yellow in last year's cup final. Wonder if Trafford or Donna would get the same outcome if they handled outside the area, let alone denying a GSO!

Henderson and Kepa 2 of the clearest reds all day everyday unless playing in a final against city. Just apply the fucking laws of the game you corrupt bent cunts at pigmol

The kepa one gets forgotten because we won that game. PiGMoL could have cost us 2 cup finals running

Compare and contrast to the Grealish "handball" against the rags.

The mould was set when we were gaslighted by PIGMOL with the Rashford non-offside at the swamp. Since then we've had Henderson, Dalot, Schär, Solanke, Gabriel x 2 and now the Keane assault on Doku.

Against City, opponents can score never before seen offside goals, deliberately handle the ball without fear of DOGSO, commit leg breaking challenges with no scrutiny, kick through a defenders standing leg to score and headbutt our players in plain sight of the referee and VAR.

With a level playing field we'd have another FA Cup, be top of the league and on the verge of another domestic treble.

We can't have that can we.

What penalty.. If you mean Bernie grabbing the Everton player.. Then it couldn't be a pen as the ball wasn't in play.. Just catching up on here.. Been too pissed off to bother before now

Yeah you’re probably right, though that wasn’t the excuse the officials gave. Sums them up!

They've gone from having the joint most red cards for last season to none for this. I'm not saying there's something dodgy going on but thought I'd been transported to Billingsgate for a moment there.
And not a single penalty awarded against them in the league this season. The idea that bunch of dirty thugs could go 38 games without committing a foul in their own penalty area is as likely as me having a day trip to Mars.

Arsenal 25/26
Penalties won 4
Conceded 0
Net gain +4

Dippers 24/25
Penalties won 9
Conceded 2
Net gain +7

Across these 2 seasons, we've been awarded 6 penalties and you'll never guess ...conceded 6. Net gain - Fuck all.

Despite us having the most time with the ball in the opposition penalty area and the opposition spending the least time in ours.

Call me a cynic, but it seems to me that the closest challengers to City seem to get very favourable net gain percentages.

Must be coincidence. Surely.

And another one which really annoys me. Managers going out of their area Arsenal manager was never in in the CL the other night. One rule for one!!

This guy is exactly what is wrong with the game in this country - all about him, not actually understanding the game, having players not respect him - in other words he's a muppet who has lost control.

Next year the people who run the game need to be progressive - they need to

1. Have independent time keepers because too many times we have to watch time wasting, fake injury and then like today we see 2 mins added at halftime which was a joke.
2. Stop VAR unless they can take away the biased humans in control of it. It is clear that there is no consistency in decision making.
3. Talking of VAR if they keep it they need to change the offside rules - only have players offside if there is a gap between the defender and attacker. Use it too for calling out blatant cheating - the fake injury when players fall to the ground then ta player hasn't even been touched.
4. Above all try to recruit referees who have played the game at the top level. Revamp recruiting and have a clear system in place that could substitute a ref who has clearly not performed with integrity.

We have a multi million pound product reffed by people who look like glorified school PE teachers.

There have been some really bad one-off decisions this season, but as far as overall performances go that easily is the worst for me by some distance. Looked completely out of his depth from minute one. Completely lost control at several points. Constantly in the way of the play, almost as if he was attempting interceptions.

Should never referee in the Premier League again.
