Referees' Performances | 2025/26

I thought he was OK. At least, he was consistently bad which, I suppose, is as much as you can expect these days. He let a lot go, but he did it consistently for both sides. I suspect if you check the Swansea forum they will be complaining he let loads of City fouls go ....
 
I’d like to ask the refs here what constitutes an advantage these days. In what situation do you play on?

As I understand it, it has to be better for the team fouled to play on than to have the free kick. Is this still the case?

I see a lot of occasions when I would rather have the free kick but the refs just play on because we have still got the ball.

(Except of course that abominable decision to pull Grealish up when clean through and give us a free kick.)

Refs use it incorrectly.

An advantage is meant to be played when the team has got themselves in a better position on the pitch to possibly score. However, refs these days play ‘advantage’ instead of giving a free kick to keep the game flowing, even if a team passes the ball backwards and are not in a better position to possibly score a goal.

I get why they do it… I get frustrated myself with games that are constantly stop-start-stop-start-stop with free kicks, like CL games often are… but it’s not the correct way it should be used really.
 
I honestly believe we are on the mend as a result of referees once again blocking loads of our passing angles and options as a result of our increased tempo and movement especially around the oppositions box
For the last 18 months this has very seldom happened
In fact Alty has hardly been involved in any of our attacks for sometime rendering him almost inept in his defensive duties for the opposition
