Referees' Performances | 2025/26

because we cant control what the refs do....neither can players/managers or clubs....

So its pointless fucking whinging about it

there you go...short enough for you?

We cant control a lot for things in football, yet we still manage to talk about it on here.

Dont know why so many are so scared of talking about refereeing decisions.

Is VAR remitted to call out individual offsides or does it only stick it's nose in when the offside leads to a goal?
see above, it does not. This did lead to a corner that led to a goal, but i think the break in play, the corner, is enough to cut VAR off (and it doesnt get involved in offsides for corners etc)

VAR is a pain in the arse but would people want to go back to just the refs on the pitch?
Yes and most would
What is unacceptable is VAR has the technology of replays freeze frame etc to get a decision correct yet they still fail in the cold light of day we accept the unfilled ref with one look one angle in real time can miss to get something wrong
I dont use the officials to mask the performance of the team its irrelevant and should be determined separately
The ref on Saturday was making decisions based on the colour of the shirt he wasnt up with play and his performance was poor to dreadful as it normally is for him

How can these identical incidents be determined differently?IMG_1905.pngIMG_1904.jpeg

Explain the difference ?? One is a red ? You choose !!
Schaar hits the top of Foden’s foot when at full stretch and by the time both feet hit the floor not a great deal of Schaar’s weight will have landed on Foden, mostly just leg weight because most of his body weight was over his trailing leg which is grounded taking weight out of the impact.
Reckless tackle, should have been a penalty and a yellow card.

Caiceido lands above Merino’s ankle and he’s not at full stretch, more body weight is going into a higher tackle.
Dangerous tackle, red card correct decision.

I think there should be something in the rules that say that a player who pretends he’s the one injured when he’s the one who put a challenge in like that cheating **** Caiceido did, should get a six game ban rather than just three for the red card. I found his pretending to be the one injured, and still carrying on his fake limp as he left the pitch even though the whole world had seen the replays, more classless than the tackle.

Well leave this thread to those of use who want a fucking whing then and maybe stop lecturing us

There are numerous threads to discuss team / player performance

On Foden’s tackle I’m convinced, but obviously can’t prove, that if Foden scored Schaar would have been booked. The stakes would have been pretty low for the ref.

The fact Foden didn’t meant the ref would have had to award a penalty if he books Schaar so he just bottled it.

Referee could of not seen it but Pawson on var has no excuses

I think fans need lecturing about this and get everyone out of this Coronation Street level soap opera that never ends and goes on and on every week within every fanbase in the country who all think there’s corruption against their club and in favour of their rivals.

I’ve been saying a lot recently that moaning about individual referee decisions or performances does fuck all, other than gets other sets of fans laughing at the fanbase moaning.

What we need to do is get City Matters to lobby the club to get together with other clubs to demand an improvement of officiating in this sport. We as fans also need to get together with other sets of fans (like we did around ticketing issues) and work with the Football Supporters Association to also demand that officiating improves in this sport. Get a more combined front to get the movement going because there’s generations of evidence to show that individual fanbases moaning changes fuck all.

When the next round of City Matters meetings happen, I’m going to ask a rep to bring this up with the club. I’m also going to contact the FSA and ask them about the drive across fanbases.

Will everyone get behind that or are they just happy to continue claiming to be infuriated with the standard of officiating but never do a thing to ever change it other than their never ending soap opera threads on every fans’ forum in the country?

Just watched the ref watch on sky. Thought we were a bit fortunate for the first goal as Bernardo totally steps into the keeper to put him off. I'm not sure how much it impacted the goal, but its pretty blatant from Bernie.

As for the Foden offside, liner had a mare and luckily VAR couldn't get involved.

It’s easy to stop these tactical timeouts. Just ban players from approaching the bench.
Same as fake injuries. Extend time off the pitch to 2/3 mins rather than current 30 secs.
WTF was going on with the Leeds player going down after heading the ball. Pitiful.
I remember Big Mal getting banned for touchline coaching. This nonsense of 'technical areas' that managers, particularly Arteta & Pep, routinely ignore. Just keep the area they're allowed in to just by the dugout and they're not allowed out of there, full stop.

By whom?

You said all fans believe a conspiracy so at least we are consistent

Doubt there is any collective conspiracy however I do believe they all hold a personal bias in some way, after all they are human. VAR has affected the quality of referees and not in a positive way

Pretty sure thats outside the remit and the club tend to ignore them anyhow. Fans groups would like VAR to be kicked out yet the clubs voted 19:1 to retain it so seems the two groups are not aligned

Until that corner actually gets taken, and as long as he peels away from the keeper when it does, Bernie can stand where the fuck he wants

So fans moaning is a waste of breath, but the club moaning (on behalf of fans lobbying via City Matters) isn’t? Just another of your customarily disguised digs at City and/or their supporters. Bore off

Whenever there is a contentious decision in a game, any game, you get a feeling about the way the decisions going to go - for some games/teams there seems to be a positive will to give the goal and others a negative will not to give it, and in each case they'll look at areas to ignore or amplify to get to their chosen decision.

Doesn't look that much different to me as regards contact. Phil's foot that is made contacted with is planted and therefore any impact is worse than an unplanted foot, as it will take the full force of the tackle. Its also difficult to get exactly the right frame, and due to the 50 F/S it might not even exist
What is clear is that VAR should have brought the onfield ref's attention to both for him to take a look they did so for one game and not the other thats the issue Maybe they dint want to give City a penalty?
