The refs and var should just react to what they see and implement the correct ruling.
With vars "help" they have two opportunities to get it right.
Instead, when there is an infringement, it looks like they are thinking,
who commited it?
who do they play for?
what colour is their shirt?
who are they playing?
whats the score?
what time is it?
did I let one go earlier?
will the tv company moan if I "spoil the game with a red"?
whats the occasion?
should I leave it to var?
what will howard say?
can we justify getting it wrong?
will the media bale us out?
who do the media favour in this game?
is it too early in the game?
have I booked em already?
will it change the direction of the game?
and umpteen various other incidentals that must trouble their minds in that moment, hardly surprising it takes so long to reach a "verdict", all caused by their trying to "manage" the game and not ref it.
Just ref the fcking game equally from minute one to minute 90, NONE of the above matter to the rules you are supposed to follow.
Sadly, I believe they have strayed so far from the straightforward and honest officiating that all football fans want, that only some kind of total reset can change things.
Howard "rag" webb is definitely NOT the person to achieve this.
