jesus is not averse to a bit of cruelty and violence in matthew

3:10-12
10: 34-36
18: 8-9

to name but a few

lovely chap that's if he even existed but that's a debate for another day i guess
Lol. The context was his question in the post about was he bad for nicking the sheet with vestimentas on it so he didn’t have to go to a god fearing church. I reckoned ‘no’ and that Jesus would applaud him for using his nous - then gave a quote to support that FROM THE BOOK THE CHURCH WOULD USE!!! Wasn’t really meant to be an essay on catholic doctrine:)

i know, couldn't help it though ;-)

Because many of us had Christianity forced upon us as children. Most atheists don't care, though...you're only talking to the ones that WANT to debate. It's not about getting angry. I just don't get how you can worship and make excuses for anything that DEMANDS worship after killing millions of innocent children. A god that endorsed slavery, which actually lead to millions of people being enslaved.
Do you believe it is ok to own another human?

So, in the Old Testament even slavery was seen as servanthood rather than servitude. Slaves / servants could go free after 7 years if s/he wanted . In the New testament as Christ has taken all our sins on to Himself and gets all the blame, punishment for those , the ' law' of love should operate as Christ gave His life for all. OK mate, you sin like rest of us. You're not sinless. Just like the rest of us. Jesus made the old law , new and complete . Just try to bear this in mind as I go on to answer this great issue you bring on.

So in Deuteronomy 24:7 (ESV): 7 “If a man is found stealing one of his brothers of the people of Israel, and if he treats him as a slave or sells him, then that thief shall die. So you shall purge the evil from your midst.
Deuteronomy 23:15–16 (ESV): 15 “You shall not give up to his master a slave who has escaped from his master to you. 16 He shall dwell with you, in your midst, in the place that he shall choose within one of your towns, wherever it suits him. You shall not wrong him.

Human trafficking ( modern slavery ) is the recruitment, transportation, transfer, harboring, or receipt of a person by the threat or use of force, fraud, deception, or coercion, or the giving or receiving of unlawful payments for the purpose of sexual exploitation or forced labor. There's a lot of it about.
God sees them as victims of a crime. Slavery is illegal in every country of the world, although some countries enforce the law less or more than others. In many cases, trafficking involves some kind of kidnapping, which was punishable by death in the Old Testament (Deuteronomy 24:7) see above, and identified as lawless, rebellious, and ungodly in the New Testament as 1 Timothy 1:9–10 says: " understanding this, that the law is not laid down for the just but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and profane, for those who strike their fathers and mothers, for murderers, 10 the sexually immoral, ENSLAVERS , liars, perjurers, and whatever else is contrary to sound doctrine,). "
Slavery was allowed and supported by the civil authorities in the time of the New Testament, and Paul did encourage slaves to submit to their masters and the system (Ephesians 6:5–8; Colossians 3:22–24), knowing that, if they didn’t, they faced branding or execution. But since slave owners no longer have the legal right to own slaves, these exhortations become largely irrelevant .The biblical ideal for slavery is the eradication of slavery.
In Old testament every 7 years a slave could leave and become free. Nowhere else was that practiced except in the days Before Christ in Israel.
We see this in leviticus 25 and Deuteronomy 15 . No Israelite may become a slave. All Israelites are servants of God. God took the people out of the House of Bondage in Egypt to be free, not to be slaves. Just as the earth is the Lord’s and is not ours to possess, so all Israelites belong to God and may not be possessed by other human beings, not by other Israelites and especially not by non-Israelites.Leviticus is very clear.
Racist slavery was practiced by 'Christians' around the time of colonisation which many nations are guilty of and that is a certain blot in their copybook. It actually continued worldwide and it still happens today. Those who didn't repent of their deeds certainly made a mistake and will have met their maker by now. That frightening fact can't be under emphasised. But Christianity is a fulfilment faith and William Wilberforce knew and believed that Christ hated it because we are all made in God’s image. Jesus said " do to others what you would have them do to you' which is the golden rule. He said we "should turn the other cheek " in non retaliation - love of neighbour as love of self - There is no room for abuse or control of anyone in Christ's teachings which fulfilled( completed) the Torah Old Testament . We also see so much of control slavery right now in governments and media worldwide .
Some people categorically condemn the Bible because it does not call for the universal abolition of slavery. What they don't understand are the cultural conditions that made slavery a sad necessity. Even so, this was not chattel slavery—masters did not "own" their slaves' humanity; they leased their work. Like divorce and polygamy in the Old Testament , slavery was never in God's perfect plan. But, because of sin, for a time and place, slavery was permitted by God, with certain restrictions. Now , in Christ it is not permitted in any way ,shape or form.

So Wilberforce as a Christian campaigned and succeeded to have it stopped in Britain.
Jesus is clear that caring for the naked, the sick (trafficking or slave victims suffer from a wide array of illness and injury), and the imprisoned is the equivalent of caring for Him
Matt 25 :35 - For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, 36 I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.’ 37 Then the righteous will answer him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? 38 And when did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? 39 And when did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?’ 40 And the King will answer them, 'Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.’
And to reject those in need is to reject Christ (Matthew 25:41–46).
Then he will say to those on his left, 'Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. 42 For I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me no drink, 43 I was a stranger and you did not welcome me, naked and you did not clothe me, sick and in prison and you did not visit me.’ 44 Then they also will answer, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to you?’ 45 Then he will answer them, saying, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to me.’ 46 And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.” There is the warning to governments and individuals.
Christ isn't the enemy here.
There is nothing that needs to change in the life of a slave victim before she can accept the love of Jesus ,Yeshua. It is personal between us and Him. All of us are not perfect , not even victims or those in the trafficking industry 70% of whom were once victims, but Christ Christ was. So He can dismiss our case as the perfect Judge John 3:36 says (ESV): 36 Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him".
Romans 5:8 "but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us."
The slave and the enslaver ultimately need healing. God is ready to accept him or her and start the healing process. He has already gone to the greatest length possible.
We all have responsibilities to fight against human ownership of people. But we must also see the sickness of our own sinful ways and turn to God.
As for anger , the atheist in general hates Scripture because it shows a perfect moral Standard which is Jesus , the Christ and it demands that we consider our way of life and behaviour.
By the way , since you talk about killing children are you for pro choice killing in the womb? Over 1 billion murdered worldwide in the last 50 years.

I'm not going to read all that as your very first point is wrong. It clearly states that you can beat your slave as long as they don't die within 7 days. That's not servitude. If your slave falls in love and have a baby...the baby belongs to the master.
I'm sorry, but how do you even THINK about making excuses for that? Your god could have just stated that slavery is wrong. "Thou shalt not own another human" Where does it say that? Yet there are very strict rules about eating shellfish? Your god even instructs the people NOT to steal slaves from other Jews but to get them from the surrounding nations. "`Your male and female slaves are to come from the nations around you; from them you may buy slaves. You may also buy some of the temporary residents living among you and members of their clans born in your country, and they will become your property."
Your god is immoral and you've lowered yourself as a human being to make excuses for it..just because you're too scared and brainwashed to question it.. Sad really.

5 nobel prize winners into psychobabble. The kind of folk notorious for having no interest in evidence ;)

“I go into the Upanishads to ask questions” ~ Niels Bohr (physicist, Nobel Prize winner, 1885 - 1962)

“Quantum theory will not look ridiculous to people who have read Vedanta” ~ Werner Heisenberg (physicist, Nobel Prize winner, 1901 - 1976)

“The unity and continuity of Vedanta are reflected in the unity and continuity of wave mechanics” ~ Erwin Schrödinger (physicist, Nobel Prize winner, 1887 – 1961

“Everyone who is seriously involved in the pursuit of science becomes convinced that a spirit is manifest in the laws of the Universe - a spirit vastly superior to that of man” ~ Albert Einstein (physicist, Nobel Prize winner, 1879 – 1955)

“It was not by accident that the greatest thinkers of all ages were deeply religious souls” ~ Max Planck (physicist, Nobel Prize winner, 1858 – 1947)

Edit : a wiki link to religion and the well known psycobabblist Isaac Newton suggests he might have occasionally succumbed to that rational science stuff…
And if they’d never been conditioned from birth by a world pushing the mythology of religions, what would be their outlook? If society held off forcing children to learn, believe and fear/live in awe of something like gods, and only told them about it when they were about 25 when their brains had fully developed, I doubt there would be many takers for religion at all.

On the other hand, maybe they were the kind folk that questioned what they had been taught and sought to explore the frontiers of understanding - and as they came to be free of the grip of egoic conditioning, then they came to discover ideas that were more in alignment with this.
Edit : If I’m not mistaken then, for you, love is a chemical reaction in the brain? And if unconditional love is possible then it would be about somehow deciding to trigger this reaction under any conditions - or that sort of thing? What it couldn’t be, for you, is a love that IS before any mental, physical, worldly conditioning? And that is what religious/spiritual teachings can point to -an opening to an experience of this (universal) Love, with which ideas around how/what life is may change.

Please speak to a doctor.

Only someone not in touch with reality would come out with something so sick.

This isn't Christian kindness or educated and informed theology only mental issues wrapped up as overbearing proselytising and judgement.

Abortions would happen anyway, only they would happen in backstreet clinics by unlicensed and unqualified staff and women (most often young women) would bleed to death or be permanently scarred.

why do you think someone should have no choice about bearing the child of rape and incest?

You didn't read fully where the New Testament condemns slavery. That is what is sad that you can't take Christ as God who is the standard of morality. It is sad you judge God and would appear to be for murder in the womb as you haven't condemned it. That is hypocrisy.
I have not excused slavery rather shown it was culturally specific and more regulated than any other culture in pre Christian times.
CHRIST is God who does not condone slavery as mentioned in 1 Timothy1:8-10 see below.
It is utterly abhorrent since Christ Jesus , Jeshua Ha Mashiach is the fulfilment of the Old Law and also condemns it in His golden rule " do to others what you would have them do to you" which Ive stated in the last post that you couldn't bare to read because you are confronted by Christ who is without sin and who renews the Old Testament. But you overlook that seemingly in your own agenda.
He says so many times" you have heard it said ( meaning Old Testament Law ) but I say to you " ( meaning New Covenant law sealed with His own blood sacrifice ). Christ supersedes the Old Law yet uses it to show how we all miss the mark. It is not culturally specific to the Jews anymore. The law of Christ is to be put into our hearts.

The slavery of the past few centuries was often based exclusively on skin color. In the United States, many black people were considered slaves because of their nationality; many slave owners truly believed black people to be inferior human beings. The Bible condemns race-based slavery in that it teaches that all men are created by God and made in His image (Genesis 1:27). At the same time, the Old Testament did allow for economic-based slavery and regulated it. The key issue is that the slavery the Bible allowed for in no way resembled the racial slavery that plagued our world in the past few centuries. Yet in the hardness of men's hearts in it was allowed.

In addition, both the Old and New Testaments condemn the practice of “man-stealing,” which is what happened in Africa in the 16th to 19th centuries. Africans were rounded up by slave-hunters, who sold them to slave-traders, who brought them to the New World to work on plantations and farms. This practice is abhorrent to God. In fact, the penalty for such a crime in the Mosaic Law was death: “Anyone who kidnaps another and either sells him or still has him when he is caught must be put to death” (Exodus 21:16). Similarly, in the New Testament, slave-traders or ENSLAVERS are listed among those who are “ungodly and sinful” and are in the same category as those who kill their fathers or mothers, murderers, adulterers and perverts, and liars and perjurers (1 Timothy 1:8– 10). So the template is Jesus Himself. We must take what He says to heart and not recede back into the cultural specific aspects of Torah. Why? Because the letter of the law can kill.
Slavery has been a fact of human existence for almost as long as the human race has been in existence. Physical punishment to enforce compliance has been part of slavery for just as long. Corporal punishment has also been used in situations other than slavery. For example, physical chastisements were commonly employed as punishment for crimes committed and for the enforcing of discipline in the military. We are not so far removed from the time when brutal physical punishment was administered and accepted by almost everyone as legitimate even in schools. In the British Navy, flogging for disobedience or insubordination was common until the mid-19th century, and caning was used until the mid-20th century. In some places, such as Singapore, caning is still an official form of punishment for certain crimes.

Clearly JESUS IS AGAINST any of these practices see Matthew chapters 5 -7 if you dare to read it! Blind people don't see the newness of what Christ gives.
Even theJewish generation who wandered the desert after having received the law of the 10 commandments never entered the Promised Land because of their disobedience to that law. Yeah God's own chosen! Id be very slow to condemn God if I were you. People broke His law to their detriment. They were hard of heart and yet God allowed them a lot of leeway. Have you broken any of the 10 commandments. You're more worried about shellfish in your nit picking mentality. Have you ever looked at a woman or a man with lust in your heart ? Jesus says if you do that then you've committed adultery in your heart with her/him.
But more importantly , overall you don't look to Jesus' view of sin which infects all of us. You seem to think you're above it as if you never committed any wrong in your life. Such pride would be foolish . This is what is so sad. Christ says even if you're angry with another person you are guilty of murder. Can you in your condemnation of slavery also see that you've broken God's law yourself?

Please speak to a doctor.

Only someone not in touch with reality would come out with something so sick.

This isn't Christian kindness or educated and informed theology only mental issues wrapped up as overbearing proselytising and judgement.

Abortions would happen anyway, only they would happen in backstreet clinics by unlicensed and unqualified staff and women (most often young women) would bleed to death or be permanently scarred.

why do you think someone should have no choice about bearing the child of rape and incest?
Christ condemns all slavery in His golden rule. Christ is God. He is the standard. He is also against being angry with anyone as it is seen as murder , in the heart. Have you ever been angry with anyone?
No child in the womb deserves to die for sins of a rapist. He is the one who should be punished. Its a life for a life situation and to kill that life is murder which you support openly and give reason via the old backstreet lie. No child deserves to be pulled limb from limb in the womb. Yet you support that with your incest question. These are horrid situations but Christ has the answer to them all. "Do to others what you would have them do to you" Would you want to be torn apart by the steel instruments of the abortionist? Is that kind?
You quote Christian kindness . Are you a Christian? If you are then help to rid the world of this type of murder.
If you're not then see the true Physician who waits for you to come to Him and has already provided a loving way back for all , including those who have had the trauma and hurt of abortion.
