Religion

It’s a ridiculous stance. Some Buddhists are rapists and murderers. So are some atheists. So does atheism sanction rape and murder?
You don't follow anthieism, you don't have a leader preaching to you. Bhuddist have spiritual leaders, you say they don't teach rape and murder and yet Bhuddists are raping and murdering. They are ethnically cleansing certain religions from Burma. I do not see any Bhuddist leader speaking against it. All I see is death because someone chose to follow a different religion.

I don’t know many Buddhist teachers but here’s something from the Dalai lama and also an associate of Thich Nhat Hanh and the plum village Buddhist community

Edit : found this article that speaks of a possible split in buddhism, which might be of interest. From reading those who have spoken about buddhism on this thread, i have very little doubt as to what side of an argument they would be on.

We’ll remain miles apart on this but I’ll try one last time. The situation in Burma is not representative of what Buddhism is about and the atrocities there are because people choose to commit those atrocities and then somehow find a warped justification in their religion.

Are you aware of any other atrocities in the name of Buddhism? Have you read the Dalai Lama’s book “Fuck other people, or maybe kill them” as part of your research?

Jehovah backwards is Havohej
Allah backwards is Halla
Buddha backwards is Ahddub
and to top it off God backwards is Dog

none of it makes sense and is all bollocks….just like religion!

Apart from the one where you can have multiple wifes for each night of the week :-)

@arfurclue thanks for your post especially the last one re the split into extremism.
@journoloud as above, I had always thought that the one peaceful religion was Bhuddism but the more I read and saw the events in Myanmar changed that.
I‘d be curious whether all humans could roughly by divided into those for war or peace, from which they make they make their choices accordingly and the likes of relgion will come to reflect that.
As an aside, I sometimes like to explore the nature of balance/equilibrium. Reading this thread I wonder how this might relate to war but also the situation in Burma (if nothing else, surely one has to be in an emotionally unbalanced state to act that way?). I find it hard to not conclude that humans are often heavily invested in unbalanced systems - rich vs poor, male va female, empowered vs disempowered, even humanity va mother nature etc- and now question whether war is en inevitable consequence of this investment. Maybe not for this thread, lol.

City v Rags.

No it isn’t. This is the religion like all other religions that humans might choose to hide behind to excuse inhuman acts. Nowhere in the teachings of Buddhism will you find anything that encourages, condones or supports rape and murder.
Even by the standards of most religions, Buddhism is incredibly misogynistic.

This from the Lotus Sutras that speaks of Avalokita (also known by various forms of Quan Yin) might suggest that the Buddha was teaching something other than misogyny.

From an article on masculine daka and feminine dakini in vajrayana Buddhism
“The awakening of male spiritual potential is only one part of the role of dakini.” The feminine having the power to awaken the male spiritual potential doesn’t sound too misogynistic either?https://teahouse.buddhistdoor.net/the-union-of-daka-and-dakini/

I come from Catholic god fearing parents who go church every week. I grew up with this shit and nicked a mass sheet and learnt the colours of the priests vestments. So I could get away from going.. Am I bad?
