Religion

True it could be anything u have described and more.

On the argument of whether there is proof that god exists or not. I hear u. U can argue from both sides. My point being, something cannot come out of absolute nothing. And i have read and researched all 3 abrahamic faiths as well as dawkins work. And i made my mind up. Not stating others should or shouldn't take the same route. We have the freewill to decide for ourselves. But my point here is one should read rather than make such statements if they wanna search or know about the existence of god.
How did you come to the conclusion that a god created the universe?

OK im signing out ... lol not running away. Some valid posts on this thread. Im not saying i know all the answers, as said in my posts, im a student of this subject and imo i believe there is a creator and this existence didn't come out of absolute nothing. And i am more than convinced, we are here for a purpose/reason.

Big bang... what caused the big bang? Look at the scriptures which claim are gods words. Without disrespecting anyone's faith. There's one out there which makes this claim. Research....

Answer to your question yes.
The 'scriptures' (certainly the ones relating to the Old Testament and ultimately the King James Bible) is just a collection of 'stories' with elements of truth in them to make them appear believable. For instance 'Jesus said...'. Yes there probably was someone called Jesus who lived somewhere near Jerusalem who may have said some things, but the rest of it has been embellished over hundreds of years and appropriated as the pretence of a framework of 'rules' to control the masses.

It's the old "god of the gaps" argument. I don't know how the universe came about, therefore; god.
But before you can claim that, you have to prove that 1. The universe WAS actually "created" and, 2. There is a god.

I find it slightly disturbing how the West has always portrayed this Jesus character as a white, gentle, softly spoken English guy! He was from the Middle East! He could have looked like Saddam Hussain for all we know.

If we were meant to believe in a god, then we would hav no doubt. As it is, this god has been the hide-and-seek champ of the universe for getting on 2000 years now! Clearly we're not meant to know about it. If it existed, that is.

I have no problem with someone believing in creation however it is defined. Some choose to say it is a god others choose a different word but if that is what they believe fine.
What I do not like is this belief that some have where they must convert all others. The missionaries going to Africa, the pope sending his priests throughout Europe. Islam preaching as it does. buddhism where murder rape and torture are accepted.
Why can they not just accept others have different views?

Missionaries to Africa was about spreading Christianity, ultimately control. Arguably caused more harm than good.

In the land of make believe anything is possible.

just because you cant wrap your heas around something coming out of nothing it doesn't mean it is impossible for it to be so. We came from nothing ourselvs,or do you remember where you were before you were born ? Do you have any proof that you existed , in a different dimension or something , before your birth ?

My point is we have to be open to all possibilities. I'm agnostic , meaning I dont have any belief in particular and rather think that it's impossible for us to understand or ever find out the truth.

I would claim not to be religious, but on occasion i find myself sitting in churches whilst on holiday, i find the architecture incredible but mostly the feeling of calm that i just can't find in this modern world, but just to keep my sandals firmly on the floor, I'll watch the life of bwian and warch Jesus play for city

1. ‘Student of subject’ - you’re studying all religions and also atheism? And in that studying, you’ve reached the conclusion that ‘a’ singular god created the universe and yet in all religious books, there’s no mention of the billions of other galaxies, the billions of stars in each one of those galaxies, and the uncountable number of planets? How can you conclude ‘a’ singular god created it?

2. ‘A creator’ - how can you reach that conclusion, with the evidence you use it could be 1 to infinity gods that created it. Unless you’ve predisposed your conclusion prior to it, because of your faith.

3. ‘out of absolutely nothing’ - it’s a bloody hard scientific concept to grasp, I agree. But so is the concept of ‘a’ singular god started it all… and we had to wait 13.79999999 billion years for the book to come out explaining that ‘a’ god did this and then played patience for rather a long time till 6000 years ago…

4. ‘We are here for a purpose’ - and that’s probably the most arrogant statement. To borrow from Douglas Adams , we are A small insignificant blue/green planet orbiting a sun in the middle of a medium sized galaxy, among many billions of planets, billions of starts, billions of galaxies … and yet, it’s just ‘us’ who are here for a ‘purpose’ decreed in a book written and edited by humans from only 2000 years ago… because there’s been 13.8 billion years for that ‘purpose’ to unveiled to us and us alone on this singular planet.

I'll add the fact that 99.9% of all species to have lived on Earth are now extinct. So life TRIES to form but fails most of the time...only 0.1% survived and made it to today. No need for any god.
