You're correct. It was 87, so it was 36 years ago.
We drew 2-2 in the cup at Leeds Road and needed a last minute equaliser from John Gidman. The replay at Maine Road was 0-0 and we won 3-0 at Leeds Road in the second replay.
Typical City wanted some attention so we lost the return league game 1-0.

Haha. Forgot about the 1-0 defeat in the return league game.
 
My mate was at Sheff Poly and I opted for a weekend piss up over there with 5 or 6 of us crashing down in his gaff

No phones, sky sports apps then so the only way to know the score was to watch final score teleprinter

It came up “Man City 10 (ten) Huddersfield 1”.. just in case anybody thought it was an error

I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.. only home match I missed all season

Had a good night that night

Seem to remember a couple of days later beating Plymouth in the Zenith? thing 6-2 where we only tried for about 60 mins, should have been 10 again.

Sheltering under the roof? I watched many a game on the North Stand where the only shelter was the fuckin' clouds that were sending the piss down on us!
 
I lived near Halifax at the time. 2 lads in my local were Huddersfield fans so I gave them a lift to the match and they stood with me in the Kippax. Not the best decision they ever made :-)
 
That was a crazy period with 4-2 and 4-3 wins at Bradford and Swindon, and I'm pretty sure that we were also 3-0 up after 25 minutes v Birmingham at Maine Road.
It's still one of my favourite seasons despite the crap attendances and the cup runs impacting on our promotion chances.
In no particular order: Adcock's winner at Millwall,.last gasp equalisers in the FA Cup at Huddersfield and Blackpool,.Nixon's stupid red card v Palace, biblical downpour at Oldham, Mcnab's penalty miss at Shrewsbury

Didn't have a season ticket back then, so we used to go to a few games a season depending on when my dad was working. He asked if I wanted to go to this one and I said no, thought it would be a crap, dull game...

What memories!! 'udders' were well on top at the start from memory. Mcnab scored with our first attack and the we couldn't stop scoring!3 hatricks, 3 different players.
When that 10th went in there were good celebrations on the Kippax. Quite possibly the only time we will get to see City hit double figures (though we did go very close against Burton Albion a while back).
The crowd was quite small as has been pointed out which was standard for the time(I knew someone who chose not to go as he thought it would be a dull goalless draw, think he regretted that!)
Obviously the actions of Liverpool fans at Heysel didn't help the general perception of foitball fans with English teams being banned from Europe. The country was in a bit of a state financially/politically (sounds familiar!) . However ,a lot of people were also put off going to football due to violence still being fairly commonplace and the fact that it seemed that pretty much ALL football fans were seen as wild animals and needed to be caged!!!
Inspite of all that, so pleased I made the effort that day....I certainly had some 'classic' days out/piss ups watching us but this is one of the few actual games that could be described as a 'classic' from those days!
