Oh, I remember that interview! I actually think the current managers of Arsenal and Liverpool must have read the 'Malcolm Macdonald guide book on how to conduct post match interviews'
Old Supermac didn't take it well did he! think he mentioned about 2 of our goals being offside, which would have made it a much more competitive 8:1! Maybe he also hadn't got over the 76 League Cup Final to add to his pain and bitterness@
Undoubtedly a good player, but perhaps not the best manager!

The club kept the match ball and gave each of the players who scored a hat-trick a ball each.

Ken Barnes later gave the match ball up as a raffle prize at evening fundraiser for a blue he went on to work for which I'm fortunate enough to own also. Bernard was not happy as he lost four match balls in one afternoon !!!

Originally the MOTM was given the match ball which was Paul Simpson but he had to make do with a bottle of champagne instead as a fifth ball was refused to be given away.

Used to go in the social club after games, that day someone I knew didn't stop moaning about the 'dodgy penalty'!!!
This 'injustice' obviously had far more impact on him than the 10 we scored!!!!

What memories!! 'udders' were well on top at the start from memory. Mcnab scored with our first attack and the we couldn't stop scoring!3 hatricks, 3 different players.
When that 10th went in there were good celebrations on the Kippax. Quite possibly the only time we will get to see City hit double figures (though we did go very close against Burton Albion a while back).
The crowd was quite small as has been pointed out which was standard for the time(I knew someone who chose not to go as he thought it would be a dull goalless draw, think he regretted that!)
Obviously the actions of Liverpool fans at Heysel didn't help the general perception of foitball fans with English teams being banned from Europe. The country was in a bit of a state financially/politically (sounds familiar!) . However ,a lot of people were also put off going to football due to violence still being fairly commonplace and the fact that it seemed that pretty much ALL football fans were seen as wild animals and needed to be caged!!!
Inspite of all that, so pleased I made the effort that day....I certainly had some 'classic' days out/piss ups watching us but this is one of the few actual games that could be described as a 'classic' from those days!

I watched the game from that little stand between the main stand and North.. family stand I think it...I was still watching City on my own travelling up from Notts on the cheap transpeak bus ,£2.50 ,but took nearly 4 effing hours to get there. I wrote to Frank Horrocks at the old supporters club at Maine Road and he responded on Club headed paper with a letter I still have,and very kindly put an ad in the Match day programme...Anita Britton wrote me a letter and I joined the leicestervbnd rugby branch,(she was branch secretaty) very soon after.

Watching City on your own wasn't really a good idea in those days and that season saw me experience disastrous solo away trips to Ipswich town( the day of the bad storms) ..and a very scary trip to Leeds utd Elland rd ...I survived.

I will never forget the feeling of pure elation as we moved towards double figures..I could not believe if..had the perfect view of Neil Mcnabs opening goal which came out of nowhere as Huddersfield town were all over us for 15 mins from kick off....the goals just kept coming.

A Fantastic day in the proud history of MCFC,and I was lucky enough to see it !

I went to that too. My first ever fa cup match.stood on the open away terrace. Best meat pie I'd ever tasted.also went back for the 2nd replay which we won 3nil in the pouring rain...I wisely dodged the 1st replay a dull nil nil draw at Maine Road.

The 'entertainment' straight after the game was probably as tasty as your pie.
Let's just say their fans weren't happy with us equalising so deep into injury time

It would have to be a big game to break 20,000 and the less popular, midweek one’s especially were more likely in the 15,000 region.
