Was a twinkle in my dad's eye
Limbs and walking sticks .it was bedlam on that West Yorkshire open terrace.i loved all my trips to Leeds rd ,back in the day....I went to their new ground in later years and felt under whelmed.Last min equaliser in the 2-2 cup tie is among the top 5 most berserk celebrations ever
Was a bloody good day out and cracking sat afternoon fa cup away from home ..in the days when City got terrace standing and separate away seats in one of their rather shabby looking stands.i loved that ground. The FA Cup had only ever been a tv thing for me before that dayThe 'entertainment' straight after the game was probably as tasty as your pie.
Let's just say their fans weren't happy with us equalising so deep into injury time
Heysel didn't help football much back then
What a following we took to both games. I was on the side terrace for the first game. The Gidman goal is right up there in terms of going bananas. Was a bloody good day out and cracking sat afternoon fa cup away from home ..in the days when City got terrace standing and separate away seats in one of their rather shabby looking stands.i loved that ground. As soon as I got on that terrace and heard the roar of away Blues just before k.o sat 3pm .I fully understood what Cup football in real life,Was all about.
,.....Brilliant. Udders gave us a right game and were well up for it on and off the pitch.
Crutches were thrown on pitch during first game.It was a great following.very noisy and There was a crackle in the air outside the ground on both days, partc the replay, which even with the rain, was still a eagerly anticipated match. There was all sorts going off around the ground before and after.i do miss those days tbf
A great cup tie.
Gildman always looked classy, even as a seasoned veteran full back who was clearly into rock music.,he still loved to attack on the over lap
It was probably fitting that in the 1st game on the Saturday, it would be his late goal that kept us in the tie.... thing of beauty ,...from a platform of bedlam....the natives were not happy outside...
I couldn't make the Maine rd 1st replay but got to the 2nd replay in the pouring rain ,out on that open terrace again, another meat pie, really good atmosphere.
I know some bloke chucked his walking sticks on the pitch/ at the ref ?
That may have been the first game tho...it was just a brilliant double header at Leeds Road.
I'm pretty sure Huddersfields ground had 2 names back in the 80s,but I can never remember the other...does anyone know ?
