we used to be given plenty of time and space to allow this one touch football, now teams have clocked it, they put pressure on us from the go. Silva is man marked all game, by about 3 players, same goes for aguero. Were also missing a key man in yaya at the moment.

i loved it like everyone else, but were not gettin enough space to do so now, especially when weaker teams park the bus.

What i dont understand is that 6 players are marking 2 which mean there are only 4 players for the other 8 we should be smashing teams by even more now

Agree w.r.t. to Yaya but if the likes of Silva and Aguero are marked that much there should be acres of space for others to exploit. Either there isn't or we are not doing it. I think we've become a little to static again so the pace of passing drops.

To me we just need to start upping the tempo of passing with one two's and clever off the ball runs. This is how you create space.

At the moment our build up play seems rather laboured and each player is having too many touches on the ball when they should shifting it early then advancing into space.

The issue is that there's nobody on our team who comes close to Silva in terms of picking apart defences. Nasri is the closest you'll get.

what i noticed on wednesday was that there's 2 or 3 around Silva so when he attempts to make one of his magical passes it just bounces off one of the 2/3 of them, so theres plenty of space but he struggles to get the ball into it and is forced to pass back.

Acres of space↓. Silva is a magnet (in more ways than one).

For the last couple of seasons I have thought that when we are playing really well there are 5 or 6 phases in the game where we string 15-20 passes together and the the opposition dont touch the ball for about 2 minutes.

Sometimes this is the slick one/two touch stuff (eg Aguero's goal at the swamp) but other times is just working the ball round looking for the right opening. We have scored some excellent goals at the end of really good moves involving 7 or 8 players and 20 or so passes.

Fantastic football. Everything felt gelled. About two months after this the understanding diminished. The players can still control the ball but it is often without dynamism, forward-looking dismantlement. Against Tottenham, every pass was part of a goal construction even if the resulting chance was unconverted. Lately, there are a lot of passes, but they are too seldom creative, forward - too often they're slow, mere distribution.

First of all lets dispel the myth about Dzeko not a top notch player.
He's world class with the right setup or starting lineup.
No ifs or buts when you viewed the 4 brilliant goals (with different mode of strikes) by Dzeko!

Why then did Dzeko go off the boil?
IMO Dzeko is a brilliant player with the results when there is creative midfield players surrounding him!.

Whats the common winning midfield combination (starting lineup) then?

Silva & Nasri? Yes
Barry & Milner? Yes
Silva & Nasri & Barry & Milner? Yes
Silva, Nasri, Barry & DJ? !?!
Silva, Barry, Milner & DJ?

with Yaya unquestionably in the above mix.

For the last 7 matches when we have the right starting midfield combination we won 3 out of 3 matches. When we did not the results were 3 losses & 1 draw.

Pray tell me whats the common denominator?

Interesting.
The Dzeko myth is created by blinkered, selective hysterics who nitpick and have zero understanding of the bigger picture.
