Remembering Arthur Mann

Sorry, just landed. I remember him as a flying full back, rated him highly. The only problem with Arthur was, he couldn't fly. He had a phobia of flying. There was a clip of him on local TV staggering across the tarmac heading to the aircraft in fear. Pretty much put paid to his European Cup competition matches abroad. He was killed in a Birmingham factory when a fork lift truck he was driving toppled on top of him iirc.

@ around 15.30 Mann to Bowyer to Bell.

Some good players in this game on both sides.
A good result away at the Bridge.

Really enjoyed watching that game. Shows what a smart confident hard team we were , and our away support could be heard loud and clear at the bridge.
Ian Bowyer showed up well for us scoring another crucial away goal...Bell took the fight out of Chelsea with two well taken goals. The Stamford bridge pitch was a boggy mess ,but City still managed to look classy.

Imagine a top tier player nowadays having to work in a warehouse/factory after retiring..crazy! Even the worst of the worst are set up for a life of luxury. RIP Arthur.
Was extremely common until quite recently! Think he was managing a non league club in the Birmingham area and driving a fork lift to supplement his part time wage from football .

I remember signing him and thinking "that's a good signing" despite the fact that I knew sweet FA about him. Much like the transfer thread now. £63,000 I think.

A British record for a left back iirc
My first idol at Hearts i was devastated when he left .. I was 8 year old
Plus it started my interest in City

Arthur always attended the Manchester Hearts player of the year event

Signed from the mighty Heart Of Midlothian.
Someone once posted on here he had one of the best debut games ever against the rags.
Not sure if true.
Sounds rather implausible as he didn't play against United until his second season.

I remember standing on the Kippax watching him marauding up and down the left wing, not sure who against but it was certainly a 10/10 performance.
I think that game was against West Ham in a 2-0 win. One of the best performances of wing play I ever witnessed at Maine Road. Had the hammers full back on toast all afternoon. Don't know why we didn't play him more often in that position.

Great bit of detail . Can anyone else remember this performance ?

I remember getting a present of a City key ring with a tiny book attached with pics of all the Cup Winners Cup team and almost the last pic was of my hero.

Had it for years until it eventually fell apart.

I was at this game. Great City following this day. It was really dodgy leaving the ground
