Return of Supporters

That's true about younger people. I think the pay-as-you watch model will rapidly grow for broadcast football. I did it last week with the Carabao match and it was easy. The price was £10 which wouldn't have paid for my transport if I had attended as usual. Of course I am one of the addicts who likes going to matches but at £10 a go I would pay to watch away games. I think the Sky business model is doomed. I am 61 and stream everything I watch these days.
The world is changing rapidly and no one knows how consumer habits will change. I am optimistic and think that charges for matchgoing fans will have to be reduced because of digital competition.
Watching on TV is a very limited experience. You can't make a virtue out of it. We do it now because there's no choice.

This is what concerns me. Whilst City have got a lot right, their absolute lack of communication with its core fanbase totally bemuses me. Seven months in and I've had one email from the club, about refunds.

I do fear that they expect us all to pick up where we left off yet the world around us had changed immeasurably and so many I know have no intention of returning, vaccine or no vaccine.
It shows you what the club thinks is important.

Football is 50% the team and 50% the core fans and fan culture in the stadium. A football club is the togetherness of the team and the fans as one.

City seem to think it’s 75% the team, 10% worldwide exposure, 10% corporates and 5% the core fans and fan culture.

Every fan I know feels like City would replace the lot of us with foreign tourists and corporates if they could get away with it.

I can't wait to attend matches again. We should be able to now, with reduced crowds. But no sign of it happening soon.
In the mean time, i'm enjoying going to new grounds, watching non league football. Beer on the terraces, the way it should be...

I went to Ashton United last week. I was clattered at the end!

I said this before the return of football but playing in empty stadiums will contribute to some very odd results. No real home advantage for teams, refs not being influenced by the crowd etc.

I did fancy Gosport v Hereford at the weekend without really looking at how to get there etc. Ended up in the barbers and then Primark for socks.

My fear is empty stadiums anyway because people will get out of the habit of going. Both Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon were great days in the pub. A few clubs supported and a bit of banter going. One Man Ure fan stormed out at about 5-1 down and the other stayed to the end.

Why don't we alter the other end of the stadium while the fans aren't allowed in

Akpowell I take by that you mean the North Stand. That is just what I was thinking while their building the new arena, why not at the same time do the North Stand as well. It should hopefully work out that little bit cheaper as the construction machines will be on site already. I can't see fans being allowed back into the stadiums until the turn of the year, or maybe even March.

Manchester has the highest Coronavirus cases in the whole of England, this mainly due to the age group 20-30's who in most cases will not follow the guide lines about wearing masks in public. I have even seen where a young mother put a mask on her child but then didn't bother about putting one on her own face. When asked by a shop assistant to put on a face mask she said "why should I don't have the coronavirus" and just walked away.

cptaidan then I suggest that you keep up to date with the news. As I have watched 2 news bulletins and listened to 2 news bulletins on the radio and all of them say the same thing. That Manchester has the highest coronavirus cases in the whole of England. Aidan you real need to keep up to date with the news. If this carries on I can see only one thing another total lockdown is coming. Those in the age group from 18yrs up to 35yrs need to follow the guidelines otherwise we will have another nation wide lockdown.

Demand? IMO, City will need complete sell out crowds for most matches before contemplating a new tier on the Family Stand.

Well aware of the news, thanks. Covid is a very real threat which the UK is not dealing with particularly well, I just take issue with you making up stories.

I love how people do this, they have a theory and they make a statement to back that up, lets break yours down. Manchester is not top(that would be Blackburn 1762 per 100,000(Manchester is 5th)so you are 0-1 there then you mention its due to young people that would assume that Manchester has a young population in relation to other cities and towns.... not the case Manchester actually doesn't rate in the top 20 although interestingly Manchester at 38 is older than Blackburn at 37 so 0-2. The spike within the UK might well be caused by the 20-30 age group, but claiming Manchester is proof of that isn't something that holds up to examination

Not sure if it's still the case but when Garry Cook was at the club(so that tells you how long ago this was), but he came to a Supporters Club meeting and mentioned that one of the clubs/owners real concerns was how much older the clubs supporter base was than all other clubs in the top flight, he went on to say all the things they would be doing to change that, but my point is IF that's still the case the club could be hit harder than others in terms of people's willingness to return.
It is still the case, and it is happening at other clubs as well. You only have to look at crowd pictures of matches from the 70/80/90's to see how the demograohic of crowds has changed. Terraces used to be packed with younger people (teens up to mid -20's) sadly not the case any more

Hertha Berlin recently realised they had a similar problem and had introduced a new pricing policy to attract younger fans who they hope will then form their core support in years to come. I posted details about it somewhere, will have a root around.

I posted this earlier this year.

I got no responses - it would be interesting to hear what fans think about what Hertha are doing...................

what do people think of what Hertha Berlin are doing with their Kids4free initiative?

In a nutshell, one adult and up to a max of 4 kids under the age of 14 can get in for FREE. The club supply the kids tickets for free and a club sponsor covers the cost of the adult ticket. Fair enough, their stadium holds 80k and is only full against Bayern and Dortmund, but the strategy is obvious - get them young, get them for life.

Surely City could do this for Carabao cup/early round FA Cup games

copied from the Hertha website.....
"Children under the age of 14 get free admission to all Hertha home games (except games against FC Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund and Union Berlin). Tickets are available here in the online shop or in the Hertha BSC fan shops. To book in the online shop, simply select the tickets in the seating plan and select the corresponding discount (Kids4Free, etc.) in the shopping cart. The cards must be booked or picked up by a person aged 18 or over. One person can collect and receive a maximum of four free tickets for children and - thanks to our strategic partner Tennor Holding B.V. - always receive a free ticket".

Last full season we averaged 54,130 in the league.
From the end of season interveiw, sounds like the extension has been put on hold for now, though that implies it was imminent before covid. I guess one crowds are back it will be looked at again.
